Does anyone know how good of a tube the 25ap22 crt was. Was this a good tube or a problem tube.

That was a cheaper type tube than most, but decent. The better tubes had an extra letter in the number, with the best of all (imho) being the Phillips 23VCGP22 black matrix+black glass. The 25XP22 was probably the lousiest.

25xp22 was the worst crt!we changed out many of those dogs in the 70s.they were still good as far as electronic quality, but they produced a lousy, lousy picture.

I just looked through some of my records and noticed that I also replaced alot of 25XP tubes.

I have a couple of 25AP tubes on hand. One is NOS Zenith from 1970, and the other is a gently used Magnavox. They tested good about 2 years ago on my tester. Neither has cataract problems.

We too replaced a lot of 25AP and 25XP CRTs in the 70's/80's- but they were run to death by the owners. That said, I sold a bunch of Channel Master 23VAL/VAT universal replacements as well. Those, and 23VCZ tubes along with the pencil neck bonded yoke tubes sold well.

Sad to see those times gone...

Cheers,
