I love RTV and other retro programming but HATE the fact that it has to have modern commercials. Takes your right back to the present when all I really want is to stay in the past at least for a while during entertainment.

think of all the old clever commercial there used to be, now its all adds for lawyers,drugs,and trade schools. Plus adds for lousy new shows.


I think I would even pay to get a channel that has period correct commercials :D

Or that GAWDAFUL "I Have a Structured Settlement , 'n' I Need CASH NOW..."....

that one it the worst, some parent or guardian wants to protect jr from himself, and here come somebody to discount the living daylights out of an annuity so you not only get hammered that way but the tax man takes a bigger bite too.

Prob cash it in for a big screen or new car....


bring back Ms. olsen for the folgers coffee, or heck even just the NBC color peacock for crying out loud...

I have to turn away from the screen when the ADD inducing commercials come on now.

A little trivia here, "Mrs. Olsen" was Virginia Christine, a veteran character actress, her most famous role otherwise was as Hilary St. George, Katherine Hepburn's prejudiced assistant, in 1967's "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner ?".

It would probably take every copyright lawyer in the country to release just one commercial and then it would have to pass today's ethical and politically correct standards so we don't hurt the viewers self esteem or that of the CRT. I sound a bit like Archie Bunker .....but was he really right a lot of the time??

If ME/TV is available in your area either on cable or low power UHF you'll see retro commercials from about the same era as the programs shown. Mostly products that are still available today. Give me cigarette and beer commercials anyday.

With me, I can not stand modern commercials in my vintage TV shows either. I enjoy my vintage TV shows with original commercials or with vintage commercials from 1970's/1980's repeats. Good example is a 1978 rerun of Star Trek from the 1960's with 1978 commercials. Keep the 2000's/2010's commercials out of my vintage TV shows and a lot of us vintage TV fans are very happy campers:-) Thank god we had Betamax in the 1970's to record our shows back then with the orignal 1970's commercials when the breaks were only 1 to 2 minutes:-) Gotta love Betamax:-)

I get the same commercials here near Cleveland. I think this is a national phenomenon, with this type of hotline being available now in most major U.S. cities. The numbers to call are local to the specific area the commercial is broadcast to, not 1-900 ones that can run up anyone's phone bill in no time flat. The first of these singles hotlines, when the services started perhaps 15-20 years ago, did use 1-900/1-976 numbers, and the charges were very high if the caller stayed on the line longer than a minute or so. I never call these things (in fact, I had 900 and 976 numbers blocked when I had my phone connected a month after moving here), but I've read horror stories in which young kids called these numbers -- running up their parents' phone bill something awful. Now I think that problem has pretty much been solved, since there is a warning and disclaimer in the ads for these singles lines that callers must be at least 18 years of age.

Hehehehehe...Way back when, in the Seventies, there was this true jackass what lived down the hall from me....Gazillion watt stereo, played NOTHING but SaTURDay Night Fever, cranked to 11-naturally-& would go off during the days & on weekends to visit his bovine Main Squeeze, & leave his Kracomatic on "Git It"...One day, w/the help of a credit card-Remember doing THAT ?!?, we uhh, AHEM...Gained entrance to his room, turned down the blaring beast, & dialed up the time & temp for Sydney, Australia, & left. Oh, did I mention that we absent-mindedly FORGOT to hang up the phone oncet we found out the conditions for beautiful downtown Sydney ?!? Silly us. Jerkwad had 2 days' worth of phone bills to Australia...And since none of us knew ANYTHING about dialing internationally, it was ALL done w/ operator assistance...
