View Full Version : is this Zenith any good? DaveWM 09-19-2010, 09:17 PM http://orlando.craigslist.org/app/1953252071.html or is it just a BPC in a fake wood housing? radiotvnut 09-19-2010, 10:26 PM "88-'90 time period. Probably uses a 9-516 chassis. Not worth bothering with, IMHO. CRT is probably weak, anyway. radiotvnut 09-19-2010, 10:49 PM I will tell you that the most common problem with that set, if it's the one I'm thinking about, is a bad cap in the power supply and it's located under a metal shield on the right front corner of the chassis. The symptom is a set that will motorboat, groan, and try to start for several minutes. The condition will gradually improve until it comes to life. Also, there were some coils in the IF circuit that will develop loose solder connections to the chassis, as well as loose connections in the tuner. By now, I'm sure the CRT's in most of these sets are weak. When you pull off the back, there's not much to look at. You'll see the main board in the bottom of the cabinet, a video output module on the CRT neck, a small space command power supply module, the tuner, and the OSD interface module. All housed in a fine quality particleboard and plastic cabinet. AUdubon5425 09-20-2010, 03:21 AM I'd need the $50 from the seller to remove it from her premises. DaveWM 09-20-2010, 06:48 AM Pbpc :) sampson159 09-20-2010, 07:03 AM like all have said, leave this one lay.these are still very common sets and i see one or two at the curb on trash day.not a quality zenith anyway.save space and your back on this one |
