Ok, i feel i need to start my own thread on this instead of killing someone elses over it. hehe.
Anyway... this TV, TV series is starting to royally annoy me.
I have one of these which is the PDP50X3 series.
Blown Y-sustain board. Replaced the YPPD-J015B, and rebuilt the YPPD-J016B with new outputs tied into the old hybrid IC.
That worked ok with pixled on bright scenes and the rebuilt 016B would get hot to touch after a couple of minutes.
So i just bit the bullet and got a new 016B. so basically the 015B and 016B are new parts about 40 bucks a peice.
Well, it seriously improved the maldischarge situation 10-fold. it was still present a little bit. but it was mostly gone.
Ran it for a couple minutes and felt the heatsinks. they were warm but not hot. then a few minutes later. POWWWW. seen a bright flash and screen went black.
Well waddya know, the J015B blew out again. the new one. WTF... too expensive to keep blowing.
The 18V VCC supply that i guess is used to drive the gates of the switching mosfets inside the IPM is only 16.3V. even with both ICs removed. testing all the capacitors for ESR, capacitance, and leakage reveal them all being fine. What gives? is the 16.3v explain the very quick failure of the IPM again.?
the J016B ER IPM survived the explosion. still good.
