Hi all. I just purchased my first old television. It's a 1949 Whatsis as seen in this thread: http://www.videokarma.org/showthread.php?t=248641

Once I get it home it will probably be a static display in one of my rooms. I'd like to fix it, but something tells me parts for this old of a TV is going to be difficult.

Love the "Electra Deuce 'n' a quartah..." Don't give up so easily on the TV...If it has a 10BP4, that is a fairly common early CRT. The other tubes prolly aren't too hard to find either. Most likely it will need a re-capping, check the resistors, & maybe a few tubes replaced. But it should be a do-able fix...

There may be hope for your television, especially if you don't mind using a soldering iron! So long as you find schematics, all of the capacitors can be replaced with their modern equivalents. In fact, I think the only things you can't find are "broken" parts, like maybe bezels and knobs and cabinet parts that obviously aren't remanufactured. In other words, stuff that generally doesn't need replacing.
