There was a thread about a year ago, discussing what kinds of TVs are found in motels, hotels,etc...

To my pleasure, and for those other tube fans, there is still hope! I stayed in a Days Inn in Reno, NV this month, and there was a Magnavox 25" cheapie tube set (tube referring to CRT vs. Flat display, of course). That motel is a lower priced place. This week we are in a rental condo in Vail, CO, which is about as high-end as they come; about $500 per night. (note: it's not on our dime). To my surprise, there's a Panasonic 27" tube set in the livingroom! If they still have tube sets here, then there is still hope for those of us who dislike flat displays :music:

Maybe the line to those facilitates cant support 50, 6amp power hogs. Or maybe they just dont want to pay the electric bill on that, not to mention theft, high failure rate, how easy they are to break, needless replacement of something that works....on and on

I wish I had! I would have been more excited about seeing the KV-7010 than anything at the Hot August Nights car show!

I suspect there are plenty of motels, especially the low end ones, that still use CRT based TV's. Back around '93, there was a guy from India who owned a bunch of low end motels here in town and they wanted me to fix their TV's for almost nothing. I went out there to see what they had and they had an assortment of knob tuned RCA XL100 "mural TV's" that ranged in years from the early '70's to the early '80's. Those sets are probably still at those motels if they are still in operation as the owners didn't want to turn loose of any money and I can't imagine them replacing a TV unless they had no other choice.

In '97, our local motel 6 was getting new TV's and I bought 20 knob tuned "PC" chassis GE sets for $5/each.

I've stayed in a few motels over the last ten years and most had either Magnavox or Zenith 25" sets. I've only stayed in one motel that had a flat panel TV and it was a Panasonic, looked like about a 42".

then there is still hope for those of us who dislike flat displays :music:
