I live about an hour and a half away from the seller, so hopefully she decides to meet me halfway and have me pay her for delivering it that far. To have it shipped (UPS Ground) would've cost me $168.50, which was way too expensive (The television set was only being sold for $20). Plus, I don't feel like driving that far right now since I've been so busy lately and don't have much time.

The TV has been on sale since the digital transition in the United States last June, so I look forward to finally taking it off her hands.

Go for it! Those sets used the upright modular chassis and produced a great picture. A lot of these passed my way back in the '90's.

i wanted that set myself,but too far away.very good chassis.i have the 25 inch xl100 from 1974 and it really is a fine piece of american technology.that 19 will be a strong and reliable performer.if the crt is decent,it will produce a fine picture.that vintage crt was very dependable.i am happy for you!

My issue is whether or not I can hook up a digital converter box correctly. I don't have a rooftop antenna in my home (I've had cable for almost 18 years). Can I simply adjust the rabbit ears to the "Ant Out" jack on converter box with a twin-lead wire adapter and still pick up a signal? Or do I need that rooftop antenna?

Please help.

depends on your signal strength. I did that exact thing (used the built in antenna on the tv connected to the converter in, connect the converter out back to the tv). Worked fine.

If you are in a rural area this may not works so well. You may find you need to do a lot of adjusting to the rabbit ears for different stations ( I end up adj length as well as orintation).

A big factor in whether you will have success with a converter box and an indoor antenna is the brand of the box itself. The Zenith and Insignia boxes (no longer made, but maybe available on Craigslist or Ebay) and the Channel Master CM7000 (still available from Fry's Electronics and maybe other dealers) are the good ones. Most other boxes are not nearly as good at receiving signals from poor antennas (basically, any indoor antenna).

Go buy it anyway! These were terrific sets and RCA made many of them. I saw, sold and fixed many but you very rarely see them anymore. Save it as they must be rare nowadays. JC Penny also sold them under the Penncrest name but haven't seen one of those in many years.
