Dave, I don't think thats a closeup of the CRT. It might be the top of the unit.

According to Sams, it uses an E51 series chassis (very early '80's). IIRC, this set uses a flat chassis with the large modules (similar to the older sets); but, uses a 25" inline CRT.

I was looking closer to see if I could see the small "GTE" logo; but, the pictures are too fuzzy. NAP bought Sylvania sometime in '81 and I think this chassis, along with the E53, E32, and E34 were carried over after the NAP buyout; so, this set could go either way. At any rate, I think I'd save my $50 and seek out one of the older ones from the '70's with a delta gun CRT.

thats an e 52 with an inline crt.these sets were good performers with few real problems other than vertical ic and tuner issues.the crts were very,very good and held up very well.good set but as mentioned earlier,save the money and look for the e 45 or e 48 chassis with electronic tuning and delta gun crt

Not a bad set but the CTs didn't live a long time. Also, this guy uses some IC's (countdown IIRC) that have become scarce.
Not a terrible set to work on compared to some of the later Funai types!

If I find an E51 or anything else you might be interested in, I'll let you know. Atlanta is still a far distance from Mississippi; but, not 3K miles! Years ago, I had some Sylvania 19" hospital sets that you would have probably liked. One was a mid '70's (E08, IIRC) with a motorized tuner, transformer powered modular chassis, delta gun CRT, and heavy as lead. The badge on the front read, in large letters, "Sylvania GT". Under that, in smaller letters, was printed "hospital matic II" The next one was an early '80's (E53, IIRC) that still retained the modular chassis; but, did not use a power transformer and used a 19" inline CRT. The tuner was a single knob motor driven varactor type with a switch for either UHF or cable midband channels. The third was a commercial version E32 that used an electronic cable ready tuner w/ red LED readout. These sets had the more modern looking Sylvania logo.

I remember a few other 19" Sylvania/Philco sets from the '76-'79 time period that used something like an E23 chassis that was actually a single board chassis mounted on a heavy metal frame. The CRT was an early large neck inline type with a socket that looked just like the standard delta gun tube socket (of course, it was wired different).

those 70s era 19 inch sets were great.they did have a big neck and the convergence assemblies were top notch.they had a small board and the usual inline neck apparatus.you could get them perfect.i often wondered why they didn t adapt this set up to the 25 inch inline crts later.triplers,hot,color ics were some of the common issues.good,cheap,reliable sts.still see them in thrift sores today.still playing good and priced around 10-15 dollars.

I'm so jealous, I always check thrift stores around here and other tv shops' junk looking for sets like that, but in my area there are just none... The thrift stores are full of late '90's and early 00's Funai/Symphonic junk and rarely anything earlier than '95. If any of you guys come across any cool older Sylvanias or classic stuff that you don't want to keep around but don't want to trash I am not opposed to taking a weekend trip as long as it's not 3,000 miles, maybe we could trade some stuff out or something. I practically never get rid of anything over 25 years old and sometimes need to find a happy home for those that aren't my favorites.
