This doesn't even make any sense? So some guy lights his Magnavox on fire and then tries to sell it on craigslist for $150 :screwy: :headscrat: :nutz: :para: :dunno:

Aren't the turntable motors impedance protected? Looks more like he spilled his 150 proof vodka drink down it.

LOL I have that exact TV combo you can see it and it hasn't caught on fire yet! And man for $150.00 for a burned one?then mine is worth thousands! I would have to say it took that thing a while to burn that far it is pretty thick wood on the area of the turntable "I tink dat dudez iz a lya"

I don't speak jive, but I think the idea is that DJ "Xtreeme" was rather violent with the turntable, thus resulting in a fire. The fire was put out, but not before the turntable suffered damage. However, since "John" says old stereos are worth money, he's trying to sell the other side of the unit. Make sense? :scratch2:

I once knew an old retired missionary lady who used to tell a story about a barn burning down because rock 'n' roll records were stored therein.

I can imagine her looking at that ad and simply saying "See...?!"

Reminds me of the music video where skateboarders trash a Zenith.

The question here is, could that phonograph had really gone up in fire like that, or did he light it up on purpose. I had assumed he lit it on fire on purpose because (for some unknown reason) he thought that story would actually help it sell.

I've never seen a phonograph motor just catch fire, and I've messed around with a lot of them, now I did once have a color magnavox where the flyback caught almost fire, it mainly just smoked a lot, the worst of it was that it stunk up my Los Angeles apartment for days.

That fire needed help to burn like that. There's no plastic in there; masonite doesn't burn like that. Somebody put gasoline on it, I say. Not nice to see.

I'm w/Charles. The whole thing just looks fishy as all h3ll to me. I've seen a few equipment fires in my day, invariably there is some charring, melted plastic, wires, etc. Wood has to get VERY hot to burn like that, & even the most crack-addled cretin would notice a conflagration of that magnitude, & done something about it.

I vote that the whole ad is a joke....probably what really happened was a bit of drinking and a "Hey, lets set the tt on fire and see how long it plays before dying". Can't believe they really intend to sell it-they were probably moving it to the curb when "inspiration" struck...

Maybe he majored in "Jive"? Least the language he wrote in looks similar to what we called jive back in the 70's, but i'm not from the 'hood, so I may be way off base here...

You emailed the guy, lol? What did you possibly say? Has anyone else emailed? At least this is better than eBay, where you have to go through all that BS to ask a "question".

If I would have emailed him it would have probably went something like this, " Yo! wow you blazed that s*** up like the roof was on fia dawg! I gotz me one of 'dem bitc**s awedy and that atrai is da shizzle on it yo! yo mussa had a mo fo of a time hitting da traks deep!
But now in all honesty, do you realize what you destroyed? That a classic part of american history. And you destroyed it in a little pyro incident. Nice. Age and intellegence obviously need not apply here. Nobody's going to buy your **** now, maybe before your intellect got to it, but not now. You might as well just take the ad off craiglist. You copy or do you need me to interperet the last few sentences for you as well?

There is no way that turntable could have caught fire on its own, they would have set it on fire after the turntable packed up and the motor started smoking more than likely. Unfortunately it seems to be the age of "idiots'' these days... sad.

Maybe spontaneous Magnavox combustion.

I think the ad's poster is a product of "no child left behind". I'll wager too that he speaks "T3xT" as well.

There is apparently a word for these people: L4m3R

Well unfortunately he is from Michigan I wonder if he works in that building with the dome on the top in Lansing? he qualifies to work there! the craps that come out of that building reflects his post quite well. And wow he is very near Canada, wonder if they take refugee's from Lansing they might like him and "her".......for a boat anchor.

Did anybody try to save the TV chassis? It may have been good for parts at the least. He likely set it out for trash. He would just love that anybody got bothered by his retarded fire which clearly was set with an accelerant.

Multitudes of young minded adults as well as actual children think doing something that is different will lead them to better friends and money. That is the basic pschology behind all the sick and twisted things most do. They truly do not care if what they do hurts anybody in the process. Many actually get pleasure from hurting others.

At least it wasn't a good brand of set like a Zenith LOL. This guy is a total idiot, so much so that this is actually funny in a wierd sort of way:D Now some "electronics peoplez" should send a "nazz-t" email about how those crappy speakers aren't gonna wake up anybody. With those tiny voice coils and puny magnets, they can handle all of 10 watts RMS, if you're lucky. LOL!!

Do CRTs in a fire tend to implode? I would think they would, from uneven heat on the glass. Or if it got hot enough to melt the glass.

Hemingray
06-20-2010, 09:50 AM
This guy is a complete dip. He'll kick himself when he realizes he could have gotten more for the entire set than he will for the speakers. (if he's smart enough to note that)

Well, I guess this makes my Maggie combo one more rarer I guess. I have the exact same combo. There goes a 25GP22, could have been a good CRT.

I think that CRT was busted before they set it on fire...
