What is a set like this reallistically worth?

Looks to me like he's about got the starting price at about what it's worth...Maybe be a bit generous & say $75-100, but that'd be about it, I think.

It will be interesting to see how this auction plays out... there is not a large market for mid 50s 21" sets among collectors, BUT CBS sets are not common, and this one appears to be in very good condition, and from the description, properly restored. Tastes vary, but I find that TV to be quite attractive, with the cool "v" treatment and unusual knobs. I don't think $100 would be out of range at all.:yes:

His time and parts are worth something besides a new CRT having been installed. If it were to mean something to you then what would you be willing to pay, or if a bidding war broke out?

That's the thing about this hobby..there are no set prices for this model or that model. There may be an acceptable/realistic range but we are always on the hunt for the bargins too! Yea, I know..this book says this, this book says that...it's all relative.

There are some rare exceptions though, ie: CT-100's, those vaulted Motorola's,Sylvanias..color of that vintage etc. These are in a league of their own.

Vintage radios and audio may fall under different catagories/values (Zenith Stratisphere, Pre-War Scott, etc.) but to me the same rules apply!

It will be an interesting auction to watch, he's at a fair starting point.
