I just now seen a cut off commercial for Hawaii 50 on CBS Monday night.
Has anyone heard anything about it? It was one of my favorite shows as a kid, I dont know why but it was/is. I just checked my guide and there is nothing, but the music caught my ear immediately and I looked and it was cut off like an accidental slip to play the commercial right after CBS Sunday Morning News today.

just added this: I looked it up on Google and it's right,
it will air on Monday nights this fall and I think it is going to be good because it is recreated by the New Star Trek producers and staff. This might make this worth looking at, as I am so turned off by fake drama "reality TV" that seems to hog up prime time space.This maybe a breath of fresh air to old and new television.

I quit watching prime time tv years ago. Nothing on in my opinion. I saw the commercial and am looking forward to the new 5 0.

was that before or after it would go from 2 door to 4 door as it did in the pre '74 seasons? with the 68 you had to love it it when it would lite the tires up already rolling they didnt fake that part. I always liked how hard on the brakes he was as he would just miss pedestrians walking along.

On the Mercury portion,, my parents had a 66 Monterey when the show first aired. So I thought it was cool that the show had a similar car. Yes, the bloopers with the cars are great and part of what makes the show even more worth watching now.

I found the credit opening I have to say it isnt like the original looks a bit like the CSI Miami format but looks like they didn't forget everything those are familiar pieces here and there.

I watch lots of 5-0, one of my favorite shows to watch on an early color set. Watching the opening on an early color set is great. I hope they keep the original theme song. There was a radio station back when I lived in Los Angeles that went under after a year or so (1260 AM) that occasionally played that, at the time I was driving a '72 Impala 4dr, couldn't imagine anything more fitting to be listening to, although I was usually stuck in traffic when it came on so I couldn't burn the tires.

...An' do they even still make the stuff that Jack wore on his hair ?!? Shit could deflect most small arms fire, I'm sure...(grin)

LOL sandy true he could go through a firestorm and that hair was perfect on most occasions, Adam I agree I do not like the new theme at all compared to the original, but it still based on the original and I suppose it would turn off the techy computer imaging directors if they had to play that old record for a new hi tech show

At least they made it similar to the original, I posted before I watched it, and had expected them to change it totally.

What I do is just plug a computer into a modulator so I can still watch it on a regular tv.

I honestly even wonder if Hollywood/the music industry is CAPABLE of producing orchestrations or music to the same level as it was before they had all these gee-whiz doo-dads to play with...

After looking into the original more, CBS Productions claimed that many of the additional viewers to the successful 12 year run were lured by just the theme opening itself and they eventually ended up fans of the show.

The best part is when the helicopter camera zooms in to the penthouse balcony to find Jack Lord turning around at the same moment always ready for the perfect close-up.

It is still there, at least was in 2008 they mention it in the tribute to Jack Lord in the series collection I think it was the Hawaiian Paradise but cant be positive I know the HPD cop Duke actually still owns the famous Mercury and drives it around Hawaii.

I found out the hotel is The Ilikai and is said to be mostly condo but there as it was with ads that it is a hotel and suite deal.
That is cute that somebody still uses the Mercury. I would guess it is the later model one. The original '68 prolly got auctioned off and lost, just a guess.

Ah... I didn't recall what the hotel was, Wofat (the Chinese agent) was named after an actual local bar and grill called Wofat's in Honolulu. As a once serious fan of the show I own an authentic portrait of Jack Lord waiting to be seated at Wofat's for dinner. that picture now hangs behind my Philco roundie. But as far as the 68 mercury it was supposedly exploded in a scene and then they switched it to a 74 and then later to a newer model mercury .

I have a friend that has a '79 dark blue in/out Collector Series Mark V with the sunroof I can buy kinda cheap but I really like the Mark IV styling better partly because it is a tiny bit shorter or at least it looks a tiny bit smaller even though I guess it is same basic size minus like a 1/2" in bumper length but I will prolly end up gettin it anyway.

I measured the length of the hood on a Mark V I owned years ago - 6 feet from the windshield to the edge of the header panel.

I agree! I watched a trailer of it the sarcastic, cocky one liners are pretty evident with the new characters, something that would have been considered rude and out of line totally in the original. Which to me shows disrespect for the "Job" at Five O.
It reminds me of a cross between Die Hard and Seinfeld. Maybe I am wrong also, but the more I see the more I think it will flop. There is too much of the same ole cheap shot, all bout myself characters in the modern tv shows.This one seems to chase right after it.

Tomorrow night I plan to watch the new 50 and then right afterward I plan to watch the first episode of season 8. I am very curious to see the reflection or non reflection of the original. It makes me wonder if the scenes will be interchanged with a HPD Crown vic morphing into a HPD police Charger from time to time in a single chase.

UGh well the 74 mercury made a debut, after that one and only original moment it was a cross between.... Rambo....Fast and the Furious...Jerry Springer. Failure is imminent for this sad remake if it remains written much the same.
The villan was only visible for about 3 minutes and the rest was disrespectful bitching from the Governor on down to Kono punching someone for knocking HER off a surfboard by accident. Then right on to Dano hitting someone with an ashtray and bitching at his ex wife on a cell phone while power sliding on a dock to capture the villan we never even seen. They should have named it " the A Team gets PMS and ADHD" Or better yet poor results from mixing monster drinks with Ak47's in Hawaii. Sorry boys this isnt going to get it!

I forgot about this, but it looks like I didn't miss much. I have yet to see a remake of an old show I thought was as good as the original. Oh well, I only have 3 of the original seasons on dvd, there's still probably plenty of it I've never seen.

I have grabbed some shows since its beginning and it seems to be getting a bit better or it just takes a while to separate it from the original, I could still use less camera shaking in car chases and quick jerky cut scenes but it my come around to be something worth watching

You know it's never going to live up to the original,It won't be set in the 60's or 70's and without Jack Lord it won't be Steve McGarret.

I wish they'd stop with the remakes already and actually come up with something new and of value.

Hollywood is so creatively bankrupt that they just keep trotting out one remake after the other.

On the premiere of Gen 2, the theme music was a total mess of the original and I played both the gen 2 season finale and the gen 2 premiere they are very different, the finale has the original music score but of course nothing like Gen1 but at least it can be identified as Hawaii Five-0 now so I think they might be getting the hint.
