Todays Craigslist find is what I believe to be a 1972? Magnavox Vertical combo. It has the Remote Control TV, AM-FM, Phono with 4-Channel Decoder, and 8-Track.
After having a lot of fun getting it into the house, I powered it up and it worked! This set has the original crt and it still shows a sharp, bright picture. No color, vertical, horizontal, or tuner issues either..
So, not being an much of an expert on the T979, does anyone know anything I should watch out for on this chassis? Any reliability issues? It looks pretty cram-packed! I can't remember working on any of these in the past, just the newer ones with the regulator module that would blow up.
I will have to get someone to help me later to lift it up onto the base so I can check the stereo.

Chassis.

I've never seen that chassis; but, I used to know a Magnavox guy and he said that was their first SS color chassis and he wasn't too fond of it. I think the oldest Magnavox SS chassis that I've worked on was a T987 or T989 (can't remember) that was in a console. I've also worked on one old 19" SS that was made before the vertical chassis sets came out. And, I've worked on a few of the 19"/25" vertical chassis sets (T995/991/809/815).

I'm pretty sure I've got that chassis out in the garage, I parted out a 72ish maggie last year and threw away everything but the chassis. If it's the one you have, you're welcome to any part of it or the whole thing. I'm not to fond of most Maggie color sets either. This one looks neat but I don't know if I'd save one if it popped up locally.

Solder connections in vertical and power supply are the only outstanding thing in my notes. That is a fairly rare set. The one after it was a bit troublesome.

I am going to run it for a while now and see if anything blows up! Mark, I will keep you in mind if I need any parts. 1 hour on, So far so good..

Hey looks good! I believe Maggies got bulletproof around 71 or 2. The 66 and 68 Maggies I have are known for certain weakpoints, especially the flyback and solder connections galore.

those maggies are alright sets.nice looking crts.when they are right,they are fine performers.sold by lazarus here in columbus ohio.you couldnt get any low level merchandise there.the display area was amazing.all the really good maggies,zeniths,and high level rcas were side by side for comparison.instead of the hobby section,i always wanted to go across the street to the annex.thats were they were.a whole floor devoted to tvs and stereos.they pushed magnavoxs hard.of course they had the other sets misadjusted to make the maggies look better.still,they were a quality set back in the day.

I have a late 60 magi all tube console that I cant seem to identify so I can get the sams on it. I can barely read the model number.

Do all the Magi chassis numbers start with 'T' and where would I find it in the set. Im not seeing any numbers like that.

Neat set. I like the early generation solid state stuff. Much more stimulating to look at from the back and easier to work on.

The chassis id tag is on the lower left on my chassis. starts with a "T" on that one, as well as my remote tube console from '69.
