These are solid sets, This one looks like it was taken care of well too.
My grandparents had this exact same model when i was a kid.. I remember watching ABC's Christmas special on it one year with roudolph and that elf that wanted to be a dentist. Ahh the fond memories of being young:scratch2: and innocent...

That looks like a high end console. I've known people who have had Sony consoles from this period and they would often go for years without trouble. I have, however, seen several with weak CRT's and bad flybacks. A year or two ago, I had an early '80's 26" Sony with the dreaded 710AB22 that was, of course, almost dead; but, the rest of the set was fine. I rejuvenated the tube and gave away the TV.

Yeah the 710AB22 was kinds duddy. I had one that killed the b+ cause G2 shorted. Think it actally took out the HOT. I replaced the HOT and a fuse and the picture came back, pink and blurry and started to short the HOT again...

Be sure to beef up your floor with a few steel beams before you and 10 linebackers wrestle it into the house!

Speaking of Sony, there's a 19" Remote set from 1979 sitting in a local Thrift Store for $10.

Works great with a very strong CRT, Cabinet is pretty near mint, only thing I see wrong is some dirty controls and a bit of retrace where the vertical caps are starting to go. KV1943? maybe, can't recall exactly but it has square buttons for direct tuning and a rocker for up down volume, like a predecessor to the Ball Bearing set.

Those 19" sets had an amazing picture when working right. However, that's another model that I've seen with bad CRT's. Many would have a strong green gun, while the red and blue were totally dead.

Yeah, I used to have that same model in the early 90s but it had a weak CRT. I got it rejuvenated and threw the TV out when the picture finally became unwatchable. The remote was interesting, it was big and had the same direct channel access buttons as on the TV (not channel up/down buttons).

Well I tried to recover the posting on my history, couldn't do so, sorry guys.. It was a 27" console made of dark wood, almost black and the controls wewre similar ro the mid 80's sony's with the angled upwards brushed aluminum style buttons, all digital, no pushbutton popper style oval buttons. Stereo MTS it looked with speakers on both sides with black felt. And of course it had the curved trinitron tube not the flatter squarer tube.

The set in that picture looks like it has power supply trouble (picture doesn't come anywhere near filling the screen) and either HV or horizontal sync problems as well. I say this set may have HV problems because almost all color sets made in the '70s were required to have HV shutdown circuitry that either disabled the set entirely in case of runaway high voltage or else made the picture unwatchable. In many of these sets the latter was accomplished by pulling the horizontal oscillator so far off frequency that the hold control could not bring it back. This, of course, was meant to be an unmistakable cue to the set owner to get the TV into a repair shop.
