I picked up this VTEK model M-19 B&W Monitor.

It looked like it might be from the 70's and I hoped I might be able to use the CRT.
It appears to work and I knew it was SS from the lack of tube glow inside.

Opening it up it seems to be much more modern than the 70's, the CRT is made by Philips and is a 19VFWP4, probably won't fit a late 60's RCA. :no:

The model label says it was made in the U.S. but maybe it was just assembled here, or the cabinet was made here?

I can't find out any info on the Web about this thing.

You could always use this as a camera monitor. If it's like my NEC, it should take a standard composite signal at the PL-259 connector on the lower left.

It'd probably make a dandy B&W TV if I added a tuner.
The "B" & "C" are Brightness and Contrast by the way, the only controls on the set, there's not even an on/off switch that I can find, plug it in and it's on.

Went looking for info on the 19VFWP4 tube and found out VDC get's $309 bucks for one!

Those were part of a closed circuit TV system for enlarging printed material for the visually impaired. There was a camera unit that was attached to a movable shelf that a book or other printed material could be placed upon. The Camera unit had controls for size, focus, etc. That unit was probably made between the mid '80's to early '90's.

I have a 12" self contained version from '84 that is branded "Visualtek". It was sometime in the mid to late '80's when they shortened the name to "Vtek". In 26 years, the only trouble that mine has given is shorted power supply diodes on two occasions. IIRC, mine uses an Amperex CRT. OTOH, the identical model at school was always giving some kind of trouble. These were costly when new. I think my parents paid around $2.5K for mine.

These were also made with a green CRT.

By the time I got to college, they had upgraded to nicer models with high resolution color monitors.

Oh, and the camera unit had a switched AC outlet for the purpose of powering the monitor.

I think you could also buy the camera unit, along with an RF modulator, to enable the camera unit to be used with a regular TV.

I think I've got some advertising literature from when my unit was bought. I'll try to find it and see if I can shed any more light on this subject.

They still sell black and white surveillance monitors. They're almost timeless. You could look at a new one and think it was from the 70's 80's.
