I'm seeing some references to the 30" Sony KV-3000 in some old threads but the images are no longer visible. Also tried Google and got nowhere. I'd really like to see what this thing looked like (chassis too if possible). Anyone got a pic and/or ad that they can post? Maybe even a vid of the doors in motion?

I've owned two of those, and I may have a picture someplace. I'll look. I know for sure I have a good photo of the chassis, but not sure about the cabinet.

Thanks for looking, I hope you find it. I took a look at my photos from the last 8 years or so and found few from the TV collection... really too bad because I had a few interesting items come and go over the years.

Here are two views of the chassis. Not the greatest detail, as they're scans of photos I took in 1988. The board showing is the control/logic board, and power door motor control (see big relays). Otherwise, the chassis and 820DB22 CRT, is the same as the more common CVM-3000 monitor.

Very cool, thanks for sharing. Did it use on-screen display for the channel indicator? Were the picture adjustments remote-control or did it use pots?

...Sure do wish I'd Cabbaged on one o' them there now 40" Trinitrons during the 3 weeks they were for sale...(Sigh) One o' THESE bad boys would be nice, too...

Just found this article from '82 that mentions the KV-3000 and its $10k price tag, the Watchman and some other Sony innovations of the era... pretty cool!

They also mention the Profeel series and how they are showcased connected with a VCR, LD player and computer. That computer would be the Sony SMC-70 (http://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?c=362). I used to have one. It is made to plug into the RGB connector on the Profeels (and 20/25XBRs as well). They also made an SMC-70G with genlock unit, so that it could overlay computer video onto NTSC composite video. I also never had any software for the SMC-70 so I couldn't do much except watch the cursor blink. I traded it for a Mac 512k with software, in the mid 90s.

It was all-electronic controls, with bar graph displays on-screen. That was one of the really futuristic features. The channel display is also on-screen. It also had some really nice audio features such as tone enhance, and fake surround sound, etc.

If anybody has a collection of early 80s Playboys, I am positive that a full page add for the set could be found... I remember seeing it once in a stack of Playboys of that vintage. Of course, I was just looking for articles and TV adds :yes:

A couple years ago, one sat on CL in San Francisco for $200 or so, and I think it went to a thrift store (I hope). :sigh: 510 lbs is a little bit of a problem, and it's so delicate to move, that most collectors shy away. I know of two collectors who have them; one in SoCal and one in New Hampshire. I don't think they're worth a whole lot of cash; just super-rare. I paid $6500 for mine in 1985, and it was still brand-new. It had sat on display at Adray's Dept Store usold since '81.

TV Rob, I actually have a Sony KV3000 with all the paper work and schematics. Whats up?

I have current photos of my own KV3000R which is in my living room. I am new to this site. Is there a way to attack photos to these messages?
