i had the same set back in the big 80s.it is a wells garner chassis.could be a hybrid or an early solid state.rauland crt.really fine audio in this one.very heavy!my homecoming queen wife(bragging)used to lug this thing around to clean and we moved a few times in the early days.that was a super good tv and stereo.used to blast my neighbors out,they had a kenwood setup and we would have contests.never beaten!sold it to a friend who i think has it in a rec room.havent seen it in about 7-8 years.my wife passed on about that long too.i miss them both.

I wonder if that's one of the modular WG sets. They built both a hybrid and SS set with large plug in modules.

I had a Truetone labeled WG built modular hybrid set from '74; but, had to junk it. Too much rat urine on the chassis, water damage, beat up cabinet, missing knobs, etc. etc. etc. That set actually belonged to my babysitter when I was small and that TV was the only thing that I wanted to play with. After it died, they stuck it in an old storage shed to rot away.

3 large modules with a tripler.it had an oddball horizontal output.really good all around performer.the crt was top notch.we really loved that set and it was the only combo she liked.it was sold for a dollar to a family friend who was down on her luck.by that time it was replaced with a toshiba 36".still fully functional when sold.picture was very sharp.much like a zenith.lot of folks dont like those wells garners,but i never had an issue.they were as good as anything else.

For some reason, I liked the hybrid models better. I've had the hybrid modular chassis, the look alike solid state modular chassis, and the later stand up solid state modular SS chassis from the late '70's. IIRC, the SS ones used and SCR horizontal output stage, similar to the RCA's of the period.

Yeah, it would be nice if the house came with it.

Before the house goes on the market, regardless if its mint inside, they'll tear out all the cool old carpet and paint everything white, including any wood paneling.....All brass cone light fixtures in the basement will get removed, thrown away and replaced with some ugly and cheap piece of crap from home depot.

Why do people take such crappy pictures of something they are trying to sell? Couldn't they use the flash, or are they trying to hide the condition?

I was able to get a viewable picture of the TV by turning up the brightness on my monitor. However, I agree that more light could have and should have been employed. Lighting is everything when you are taking pictures indoors; the use of a flash unit on your camera is almost imperative--try to snap the pic without it and the photo will turn out too dark to see, if it shows at all. I have a cheap Radio Shack digital camera with a flash, but it usually isn't enough when I am taking pictures inside my apartment; I more often than not have to turn on at least one room light to have the picture turn out halfway decent.

Yes, they were!
I've seen rebadged RCA's, GE too...a Penny's set could just about be anything.

Sure was! They used that name up until the early '70's. Then, they simply started plastering the "JCPenney" badge on their set until the got out of the TV business, sometime in the late '80's.
