I have had this for a long time, bought it new back when I was just starting out. Been out in the garage forever, my recent interest in vintage tv made me curious about it. tuned it on, hooked up to the digital converter, and aside from a slightly dirty tuner (rotary) it works very well indeed, a nice pic.

So who made these sets, I think it date from the early 80's (1st job was 1979, and I seem to recall buying it a couple years later, I think at on of the old big box stores like gold triange, k mart, something like that.

Its in really nice shape.

It's been a long time since I've seen one; but, I think they were made by AOC (which I think stands for Admiral Overseas Corporation).

I'd be very interested to hear the definitive answer. I happen to like AOC sets as well as the Daweoo/Portlands built by Taihan Electric Co of S.Korea. They weren't bad looking sets til you had to repair em...

Yeah, til you had to repair them. The biggest problem I had with those cheap Korean imports was the flybacks suddenly going up in smoke after a few years. They let out quite a racket when they go up and they will stink up a room. I wouldn't be surprised if several companies made Capehart branded TV's. Back in the '90's, almost every AOC that I found had a bad flyback and most of them were NLA; so, that meant junking the set. Speaking of AOC, we were out shopping for a new computer monitor and we found an LCD monitor that was the AOC brand.

A service clinic instructor I knew always referred to AOC as "Admiral of China" - and I never questioned it. Now I know the rest of the story.....

I have a mental picture going of these TV's. I seem to remember replacing alot of vertical outputs with these.

I had been told Admiral of China as well; the company seemed to be one of the first to move into Taiwan.

I don't think I've ever seen a Capehart TV from that era; plenty of other "junk" brands. Guess they never made it to the stores around here.
