Today I saw a Sears, carry along, AC-DC, AM-FM set with a manufacture date of 1978 at a Goodwill. I became intrigued by the set that I remember looking VERY modern as a kid. I have no idea what this type of thing could be worth, if anything. I am fairly certain that they thought that the set didn't work because I had to do a lot of vigorous working of a mode switch and several potentiometers before I got the set to work fairly well. I actually pulled in an ANALOG UHF channel that was playing 50's TV shows. Several people, including a few kids, ended up stopping to look at the tiny black and white TV playing The Lone Ranger. I thought that it was kind of cool that after all of the changes in technology that an old black and white TV with a TINY screen was attracting attention.

Anyway, if anyone knows anything about the value of, or even wants this set, I can go back and get it. It seems like I remember somebody here messing around with these things and posting a thread, but I can't find it.

Is this a Sears BINOC with a 2 inch CRT? How much did they want for it?

No, I wish I had jotted down the model #. It's nothing like the picture you have. The UHf and VHF selectors are side by side on the front right side, and the CRT kind of protruded out from the rest of the black case. Also, the radio dial was on top. Very interesting looking set. They wanted ten bucks for it.....

Yes, that's the one. I guess if I'm not specifically into 70s portables than the set would be just another set taking up space that I can never find a home for if I need to MAKE space..... I just wanted to make sure that it was no serious collectors item, or something someone here may desire. If anyone wants this I would be willing to get it and ship it at cost.

I do not think that this model would be valuable or collectible to anyone, especially since analog broadcasts are 95 percent dead. I personally collect only B&W sets 2 inches or smaller, and Color sets 4 inches or smaller.

Anyway, it is very nice of you to post it and offer to go through all the trouble of purchasing it for someone.

It is the Sears "Go Anywhere" portable. I have had a couple of these and they are good performers. I believe they were made by Sanyo. Today they will work fine from a converter box or at the very least they make a decent portable radio. They have a large speaker and the sound quality is quite good. It is well worth saving in my opinion. The 5" portables I kept after the analog switch-off all have radios in them.

It's a nice little set, and for $10 I'd grab it if you like it. However don't do so as an investment, as I agree it will be awhile before it has any collector value. If it were color, on the other hand, those are starting to get some interest going. They didn't make many 5" color sets in the 70s & early 80s due to their cost, and they're getting rare these days.
