Looks like just what the guy says. It was a TV/radio combo, and someone removed the TV.

Even without the TV chassis, I have to say that looks very, very cool. If it was local, I'd be all over it like . . . you can finish the sentence.

The dial, with longwave band, "BBC Light", and "Moscow" notated on it, and printed in English, strongly suggest this set was originally sold in The UK.

The shape of the picture is odd for an older set. I wonder if it may have been a rear-projection model?

The description says it's a British TV called a Defiant from the early 50s. But I agree the cabinet looks more like it's from the 1940s, but then an early 50s date would explain the rectangular hole for the crt.

To the left of the label on the back and above the vent louvers, I think that I see an extended area that perhaps covered the end of the crt, so I suspect that it was not a projection set. The mask that surrounded the crt appears to be missing, so we just see a rectangular glass in the front.

I thought it might be pre-war too at first but the rectangular screen suggested otherwise.

It seems unlikely anyone here in the States is ever going to find the internals for it so it might be a cool project to make a conversion set or a video Jukebox or something out of it (reversible of course).

It's a rather spectacular cabinet in any case.

I am puzzled by this cabinet. The model number suggests it is from the early 50s, but the style looks 40s. I'm sure it isn't prewar.

I'd bet it is from the early 50s, just like the seller indicates.
