I got this Emerson 27" tv with dvd and vcr. The model is EWT27T4 and it was made in Sept 2004. The vcr doesnt work right on it. If you put a tape in it will start to play for a few seconds and then the whole thing shuts off. When you turn the power back on it ejects the tape. What would be wrong with it? I was thinking it may need cleaned. Im sure theres more to it then that.

There is a small black circular switch that is connected to the cam gear underneath the tape transport. This switch oxidixes and gives the CPU incorrect transport info. Back the chassis out and put it on its left side as viewed from the front. Look towards the front of the VCR section and you will see the little switch. It is round, about the size of a nickle. I put a small amount (be careful, no flooding the circuit board) of WD-40 on it, give it a moment to soak in and put the chassis back in. Be careful of the tape door. It has a small lever that picks it up when ejecting. The door has to be lifted slightly so the lever can pass under the door.
It may take a few tries to get the WD-40 around the switch. I usually put the VCR into fast forward and rewind a few times. This makes the switch rotate and distributes the WD-40. It cures the trouble about 70% of the time. If not, let me know.
