Could this be the tube used in early Toshiba/Sears color tv's? I remember they had a 15" tube.

Not a Japanese one, as they started out with the Japanese numbers (I think the Toshiba fat-neck was a 400EDB22). This one is, I think, for the RCA 15" portables from '67, and maybe the Zenith 15"ers... Not sure.

I think it was used in the RCA CTC 22 sets. Think the blue gun is on the bottom instead of above red and green.

I have one of those RCAs.... I might grab that tube if it sits bidless. But I'm very skeptical about "NOS" rebuilt tubes on eBay. SO MANY of them are actuall re-boxed used ones, that turned out not to be so bad after a new one was put in the TV.

Since it is a radio museum selling this, hopefully they know what to look for. They did say the original staples were intact-never opened. I don't need this tube, but was tempted just to keep it from the dump. Somebody here can use it, I bet.

That tube does fit the CTC-22. The only other set that uses the 15LP22 that I am aware of is the 15Y6C15 chassis, which was zenith's first 14" portable that they produced from '68-'69. 1970 models and up used a completely different tube.
I could actually go for this tube as the CRT in my '68 zenith isn't the greatest. I'm curious what the face looks like, some were bonded, some were not.

I have one of them Zenith portables. Actually, I need the service info on them, since mine's got convergence and sweep issues. It still runs, though, and hasn't had much repair over the years, either. I'd love to get it going so I could have a color set over here...

Sitting with jealousy :D . I love those, and had many which I bough, cleaned up & sold in the 80s. Steel cabinet, steel chassis, steel back, and even some steel knobs! Built like a '49 Buick Roadmaster. All of a sudden, they disappeared. I'd sure like to find one to keep this time.

I was at a garage sale, and I'm looking in a room and there's a TV for $5 there. and I'm thinking, 'that's a cute little Zenith, awww cute, they put a tri color logo on a little B&W portable.....color...on an old B&W portable...hey wait, color...."

Yeah, the whole thing's steel. The back, front, top, bottom, chassis...

It's interesting how they crammed a whole TV set in there, and they're a weird hybrid - the IF stages are solid state, but the color/sweep/etc are tube save for some random transistors in there. And a ton of diodes...

They're tiny - you'd never guess they're color, without looking closely...

recently fixed cataracts one one.wierd seeing a zenith with the moldy looking cataracts.that is untill i pulled the jug and noticed the serial number on the base guide and eia 274 on the label.yes its an rca tube with a zenith label.
btw i got a 15" lv focus rca tube at a hamfest over the summer for $1.
tests like new.the seller tried to put it in a conar kit tv and found it would not focus.he bought a replacement from vdc to get it going.too late to tell him to try hooking focus to ground,b+,or boost to find best focus.

Zenith must have used RCA made tubes before they got theirs into production? I've seen the bonded lens type on the zeniths, which must be the early production. The Rauland built tubes did not have a bonded lens.

Ok - anyone got a service info on these suckers they can scan?

Oh yeah, and what's the high voltage supposed to be - mine needs a convergence and neck gear setup job, and I might as well just do it all..

Just my own experience: I'd keep the HV set a little low, or leave it where it is if it's already low. Those sets eat flybacks, and a KV or so low, might buy you another 30 years.

Ok, my only other issue is I've got a slight pincushion on the horizontal. I'm wondering, is here's a pincushion correction on this thing, or do I need to shift to yoke, or is something fried?

Might be a problem in the convergence circuit. Probably nothing big, and also I've seen a lot of Zeniths with SLIGHT gemoetry problems from the factory. I don't think the engineers were too worried in the 60s about geometry, as long as the center of the tube (face shapes, etc) was OK. That's because there weren't any graphics or crawls at the bottom, etc., to draw attention to bad pincushion/slight keystoning, or bowing problems.

Exactly. I agree completely.
I've seen many zenith's that could have had better pincushioning, especially on their portable. The little 15Y6C15 in particular is a very annoying set to watch on letter box scenes.

I did find a pincushion adjustment - I think it helped a lot. I'll grab my crosshatch/dot generator and set up the thing later today.
it's a neat little set and I'd like to have it going nice so I can watch color TV here - the 19 inch B&W I have doesn't cut it...

The worst pincushion I've seen is on some cheapo hybrid imports sold by Sears and Wards in the early 70s. That and the poor color makes them tough to watch. I recall trying to find an adjustment on one of them but never had any luck.
