I am guessing a lot of solid state, and check out the slide controls.

A good 1st vintage color set?

It looks like a works in a drawer set, possibly a 4 tube hybrid??

It's definitely a works in a drawer set, looks to be about a '70, could be a '69. There's much better first vintage color sets but, if the price and location are right, it's not exactly a bad first color set either. When working correctly, they're nice. I've seen a nice picture on one. I like this one and would have it myself.

Yikes what? That thing is cool.

I've seen people on this forum guide a blind 6-year-old with a speech impediment through the rebuild of a smuggled, Russian color set that used a 4-gun tube (yellow phosphor). I think people on here could help you fix that set.

...and if not, it would make a nice aquarium.

That could be the extremely rare first all-transistor Motorola. I'd look into it! Motorola was, as far as I have read, the first to bring an all-transistor color console onto the market (even before the RCA CTC-40). I know very little about it, as I've only ever seen two of them, and never repared one.

And a good looking set that is too! Look at the detail in the cabinet work..

he wants 100$ for it, honestly I was trying to stay away from transistors, I feel more comfortable with tubes.

Thats a great set. I really like those works in a drawer models. I always enjoyed working on those, they are easy to fix and keep going. I think the first one was in 1967? I've got a '70 model. Only issues I had with mine was intermittent picture flashing and strange color sync issues. I recapped ALL of the modules as they used those horrid "ero" caps which are nothing but trouble (they are the worst caps, always leaky). After that repair, the set is perfect. That one looks mint, it probably even has all the service literatrue stapled inside the cabinet still.

If I recall, the chassis number of the first Motorola all-xistor set is TS-918. If that is what you have, you do have a historic tv. Could be a bear to restore, though.
Nice find! :thmbsp:

nothing wrong with transistor sets - just look at how successful the zenith chromacolor series was!

If it works, at least you may have an easy restoration. If it doesn't, you'll have some troubleshooting to do - however at that price you might want to think twice if this is your first set.

If nothing else, it will at least give you a very large table to place smaller sets on top of! :)

Can you check the condition of the CRT before making the purchase? If the tube is weak, i'd pass on that 100 dollar price tag (unless you think you can easily find a replacement easily for a fair price).

As Carmine pointed out, you'll have plenty of help here from others that have dealt with these sets.

A few questions to ask yourse'f...

1. Do you have room for this beast?
2. Will your wife freak out?
3. Is your back strong enough?

2. Will your wife freak out?

LOL! This one need not be asked, it's safe to assume she will! But like Charlie said, if you can check the tube it would be a big plus. If it's good, I'd grab it in a heartbeat.

think I will pass on it, too big, and I am really trying to be a bit more selecitive and If I get another monster I want a tube set. Its not that I dont like SS I just like tubes better, something about all the glowing going on. I like to leave the backs off so I can look at them now and then.

My wife is def at the critical mass point on all these consoles, so I better make sure the next one will take care of my fix for a while...

I have a possible lead on a VERY nice condition magnavox console with a color roundie (so I have been told). If I am going to get another monster I would rathter have that. The price is right (free) I just have to make a drive to TN to get it.

in the mean time I am still searching for a floor or table tube color set, I think I can swing that one with out too much dancing...

another project I would like to try would be to just build a tv set from scratch, as a science project with the kids. No tuner of course just a HV sweep video amp and detector.

We started with the crystal set, then a 1 tube regen, the a 5/6 tube superhet. That one was fun, did it on a piced of wood with tube sockets and term strips.

since no need for a tuner I think I could do that with a TV as well since no VHF anywhere.

Where is the Motorola located? Perhaps one of the other guys nearby would be interested in it.

The Maggie roundie console for free sounds perfect! You can't turn down free roundies!!! :) Wish you luck on gettin that one!

I think it was in Vero Beach FL, I am having a hard time finding it on the CL again, If I do I will post the link.

http://treasure.craigslist.org/atq/1360014356.html

That is not the link, but it is the same seller, I don't know why I cant find it again. for anyone that want to pursue this.

He had it posted several months ago (the above link is only a couple weeks old as was the TV), I told him the Motorola would be a tough sell due to the size, and as far as the belvedere goes, I dont know where he got that price from. I told him it was a nice set, but hard to gauge the value since I have no idea of the condition of the electronics. therefore I could only offer him a real low number and take my chances on if the PT is good, IF's etc... He did not take it back a while ago. I have since lost interest in any more conosole radios, with TVs being my focus now.

500$ is crazy high for the radio unless he has had it fully restored, and even then I think that is way high IMHO

The TV link had a asking amount of 100$ sorry I could not find it.

This looks like the set I have in my garage that I've been going stir crazy about trying to find any information about. All I know about mine is it is a Motorola Solid State 100 stereo/tv console. It has a radio under the left top of the console and a record player under the right. It also has a tv in the front which is covered by two sliding doors. The tv has a dial on it and 4 or 5 push buttons. The power light is located on the front side of the frame in front of the tv and it lights up when I plug it in, but that's all it does. It is low to the ground and is on rollers. I'm trying to find out it's year and value

Ah-Hah! You're one of those guys!

The value is having one of them in your possession... that's it. Money wise, you can hardly give them away.... because they are so big.

if you are the same guy I talked to back a couple years ago, then same thing applies, big heavy makes them hard to sell, and plugging it in to see if it works is not a real good idea, it may be fine, but then again it may cause damage. If you can find some one local you may be able sell it, but I don't think you will get much for it. They are just too expensive to ship to someone that may be willing to pay for it.

Now what you could do is see if anyone here is local to you and maybe they can help you out as far as checking it over, and maybe even fix it for you to enjoy if for what it is.

Reading back through this thread remind me of all the very cool, very informative, talented members that used to contribute to vk. These guys brought hard core tech and experience to the board, now it seems to be a non stop repeating threads about some recycle bin material sets I see 5 of every week on the curb.
I guess no matter what it is, looking back at the way things were will aways make a person who's eyes are open sad :sigh:

yes. yes. we should all strive to live in the past, to live retro, to live in the utopia of the 50's and 60's --- a utopia that never existed ---
we should all go back to wearing mechanical wristwatches, twisted pair wired analog telephone service with rotary dial desk phones, drive those dinosaur rust bucket cars of the 50/60's that everyone salivates over and we should all have an outdoor teleevision tower and antenna and be limited to abc, cbs, nbc, and let us not forget the beloved and ever popular DuMont network

The TS-918 was their last, mainly tube set.
The TS-915 was the first WID set. The TS-919 was, electronically the same set, but not WID. That model seems to be rarer.

Where would I find the TS-918?

Typically it is stamped on the back of the TV chassis.

The set on display here is the LK731C with TV chassis 22TS-918A. This set was offered in late-1966 with two other similar "tractor-trailer" sized models... the LK730C and LK732C. These three models came out in late-1966... several months after all the other sets using the 918 chassis. There were about 2 dozen models using that chassis.

The chassis is all tubes (with exception of the UHF tuner) and is completely independent of the stereo chassis. The amp in the stereo is 50 watts.

As mentioned previously, value is not much due to size. It's not uncommon for TV collectors to turn these down... even when free... because they are so large. A few years back, I turned down an awesome looking Curtis Mathes... simply because my space was limited. Typically, entertainment centers with round-screen color tubes are easier to get rid of than rectangular tubes.

drive those dinosaur rust bucket cars of the 50/60's that everyone salivates over.

Now now; in the UK those boats are sought after. Why? Most have the stability of a roller-skate with worn bearings but people want them because they are rare. Nothing wrong with that, nothing wrong with mechanical wrist watches either as long as you think of them as things to collect, not for everyday use.

Old stuff gets a gloss; in memory most are far better than they actually were. Yes, I'd love to have one of those huge Motorola combination sets that get talked about, but only if someone who knew what they were doing rebuilt it, and it worked reliably (and the TV had a decent picture for day to day watching) for the foreseeable future. Were they ever this good or reliable? Or in general do you guys do what we do; wish ourselves back to a past that wasn't what it was.

Welcome to Videokarma.

Your console set is from roughly 1968 to 1971; others may be able to give you a better date. As others commented, it does not have a monetary value, because there are still many console TV/stereo units out there in people's homes. The stereo part may be solid state even if the TV has tubes. There large sets can be fun to keep and use; I have a 1965 RCA combo somewhat like yours.
