I bought the sparton off ebay #220474804305... Model 5262 chassis 26SS172A..

You read the story and "something happened" Well, i got it home and removed the back.. Upside? the 17BP4B tests new and theres sound when its turned on.. Downside? looks like alot of melted plastic and black like ash beneath the yoke and the fuses in the HV cage are poped.. Holy cow!! never saw a dual h-out tube setup before.. (They tested good...) So its safe to assume the yoke is toast... Any input would be appreciated

It's common for the black plastic on yokes of that era to turn to dust, it doesn't necessarily mean the yoke itself is bad.

As for the fuses there's a good chance the seller plugged it in with a bunch of bad caps and the fuses blew.

Thats true Eric, he was running it. As the ebay add stated, he bought it from an antique store and it worked fine, then the screen started narrowing over time till there was no longer a picture.. The copper windings on the yoke arent discolored, it was the deteriorated, melted pieces of the plastic yoke parts lying on the chassis is what made me think the yoke was cooked.. I figured running old caps is what fryed the yoke.

I have to agree with Eric, I doubt if the yoke is bad. Those plastic pieces probably are not melted yoke pieces. The symptoms you describe sound more like a dying horizontal section. I have never seen bad caps cause a yoke to overheat and burn up but I guess anything is possible.

I did replace the fuse and test fired the tv and got a pic. so i guess the yoke is fine allthough a bit out of alignment...

It did what he said it did after a few moments, it fell out of horiz sync, the picture got narrow and it went black....

Time to start thinkin capacitors....

The pic i got was half round like the yoke was slid back. Anyone have the part#s for this yoke? Its a mess and if i can find one cheap i may get one.....
