I just got a call from our ranch foreman, that some lady came this morning with an SUV full of "REALLY OLD" heavy metal TV sets and left them in the horse hospital building! She had seen my junker Sony 40" WEGA that I have sitting there for next Sunday when I will implode the CRT for a YouTube video, and she wanted to know what to do with her Dad's old TV sets. I can't wait to go down there and see what I got :banana:

Don't ya just love it when TV's come to find you instead of you going out to find them??? I had a small Zenith 50's set show up on my front porch once... was interesting to find when I got home from being at sea for two months. I know I've heard others here have similar stories.

If they specified metal, you're sure to get something worth saving. If not, you could always have them on stand-by for shotgun practice! :)

I imagine that's why you've got so many coming in...people don't want to pay the disposal fee and are happy to dump 'em somewhere!

Disposal fees? If we have a set to get rid of, we stick it on the side of the road by the trash can. If someone (like us) doesn't get to it first, the big trash truck comes around every two weeks and picks them up with the giant claw. At least, that's what they do in the city.

Out in the sticks, you do like Charles and shoot it up with a gun and either put the remains in the dumpster (if you have one) or bury what's left in the back yard. :)

I was so busy yesterday that I didn't get a chance to really check the sets out, but at least they REALLY ARE old metal sets! One is a mid-50s Zenith table model 17", one is an RCA 14" metal late 50s portable, a Philco Seventeener (the one with the Predicta tube in it!!!!!), and also one of those RCA 8-PT-xxx 8" metal portables with the flip-up door on top for the controls. Nice shape too! Also a box of tubes, and a dozen 50s/60s 5-tube radios. I'll get photos ASAP, but I'm on the run again today, as we're trying to get two vacant apartments in Simi Valley and Chatsworth ready to rent by the 1st.

Or if the environmentalists get on my nerves too much, heave the sets into the creek, and next winter, the greenies down at Malibu Beach can deal with them :yes:

Cool! Glad you got some interesting sets. I was given one of those Seventeeners with the Predicta tube and it makes quite a nice picture after repairing the yoke supports. I tested the CRT and it has almost-new emission and passed the lifetime test with flying colors. Neat sets.

Regarding the disposal of old tv's, well I just place them on the curb too. Read that they are then incinerated near Newark NJ though, so that is a bit unsettling...Nevertheless I still rest assured that the planet'll be fine; after seeing just how strong tropical storms and twisters can be. :sigh:
