I borrowed a scope and calibrated my CBS-Columbia Model (not sure) Chassis 1604 (sam's set317 folder 3). After I was done the white line I mentioned in another thread is still there. It goes from the top to the bottom.I have subbed in all Horiz. tubes. All caps in the horiz. are new and any resistors that were not really close were changed. The hold contol does move the line around on the screen from left to right. There are also less noticeable ghost white lines to the left of the main line.Most of the time these lines are very hard to see unless the screen is mainly black.The linearity is fine. I have also put a 100pf cap in the damper circuit. Plus the damper tube was subbed and made no difference. I even tried subbing caps in for the ones on the diagram that were different values for "some sets".Well, Now what?I am lost. There is one cap to goes to ground right before the horiz. drive adjustment that should be 1200pf. and all I can find locally is 1000pf., is this enough to make a difference? I was told that in the old days capacitors did not have a "tight" tolerance and that 1000pf was close enough.

The one thing I am curious about is the fact that the diagram shows one 470ohm resistor and a 47mmf cap in the yoke all my set had was a burnt in half cap-no resistor.I have put about 12 hours on this set. The pic is quite good except for the lines which you can't always see.Plus the yoke does not get hot.My book says these lines are a damper circuit issue. Ok, My damper circuit is only one tube-and 4 wires, 2 to the tube heater. 2 to the functioning part of the tube. I have subbed in a diiferent tube from a good set. This is confusing

Regarding incorrectly subbed parts: It's been my experience that TV's are very particular about the values of parts in any circuit having to do with vert or horiz deflection. My Sylvania's picture was all garbled and I couldn't get it to stabilize; turns out I had a cap in the horiz section that was only off a few Pf, but it caused total dysfunction of the horiz oscillator. Once I had the correct value in there, it worked perfect and I haven't touched it since.
If you can't find the right single one, go with 2 caps in parallel to get the right value.
The lines you describe sound like retrace...

I second that .. it does sound like retrace lines,, I have a couple sets that they can't be tuned off completly.. I have been looking for a circuit Mod, someone had mentioned on one of the forums.. that is supposed to fix that...

The cap and resistor in the yoke should be replaced as their absence may be contributing to the cause of the problem. Adjusting the 'H Drive' capacitor on the rear of the chassis may also reduce or remove the 'drive line' on the left of the screen.
I really like the B&K. It makes a great test pattern.
