Well, I took this set in to save it from the dump. It needs a heck of a lot of help and I haven't decided what I'm going to do with it yet. It's a Magnavox "The American" - model no. MV 76H-1; the TV is a CT-302 chassis. The CRT is busted, it has some GE tubes dated to late 1960 and has had a few caps replaced way back when with light green Dubeliers. Interestingly, inside the cabinet I found pieces of some sort of pay receipt from the Army dated 1944.

Hopefully that set does not use the 21EP4. If it does, you might have difficulty finding a replacement, and there's no substitute number to use.

I found a Maggie like that (but without the radio) about five years ago. It had the 21EP4 with a brightener already on it. The owner allowed me to put my tester on it, and turned out it was quite dead. Decided not to bring it home... although I probably should have being the cabinet was in nice condition.

Good save. Luckily, with the correct combination of chemical enhancements, you can imagine that you see a raster and you won't need to replace the crt. :D

I am pretty sure it's a 20-inch tube, but the label on the CRT is long gone, so which one is uncertain. Just going by old advertisements, it doesn't seem like they advertised a 21-inch set until 1953, so maybe I'll luck out. The TV chassis was covered in Sams 161, so I'll try to hunt for a copy of that in the future.

The underside of the chassis is pretty clean, miles better looking than the topside.

You are probably right. My Halolight is a 53 model with that tube. Luckily, mine had already been replaced and is still good. The Maggie I looked at had the same exact knob layout as yours, but was likely a year later.

Judging by the shape of the mask, it's a 21" tube. The 20" tubes were very, very rectangular, with nearly flat straight borders. Is it metal? I think the 21MP4 was available as early as '51.

It is not a metal tube, and not very heavy either. I probably won't know for sure what it is until I find that Photofact.

I have the photofact, 161-4. Got a spare, if you want it drop me a line. Looks like lots of versions covered in this one, using one of the following crt's:
17BP4
17BP4A
16TP4
19AP4
20CP4

The one pictured in the Sams is ch.CT303 which uses the 17". Hope this helps.
