I think I have a spare Photofact for this. I own one myself, have never been able to get all the bugs out of it. More electrolytics than any tube set I've ever worked on! Anyway, I'll check my list tonight.

Thanks. maybe between the two of us one will be working! Actually, I'm tackling it for my neighbor who got it as a wedding present (she's like 80 yrs old) and she'd like to see it work again. Wish me luck!

Well I was able to get a Sams on fleabay and i went to look at the set last night. It's in gorgeous cosmetic condition ( i know, pictures next time - forgot the camera). The owner said it was working until her son bought her a color tabletop model and she just plopped the color set on top, unplugged the Andrea and hadn't used it for 20-25 yrs. To my amazement he 16GP4 crt tested good on emissions at 400, no shorts, good cutoff. The life test could have been better, but I think it will serve it's purpose for a couple of hours of use per month. All in all, a good candidate for resurrection. All the other tubes tested good also. The unit blows the main fuse even on a dim bulb test so there's surely major cap work (or worse) to be done but i ran out of time and couldn't pull the chassis. This monster has 102 caps. Discovered that the fuse must have been added, because Sams doesn't show one on either the schematic or the pictorial. More updates and pics after I pull the chassis this weekend.

What fun to restore a TV for the original owner who lives nearby. You will earn bonus karma points, for sure :)

Yes, it will be fun. The first conversation I had with the owner she was deciding whether to trash it or pull the guts and stick her color set inside. I almost screaming said "DON'T DO ANYTHING TILL I GET THERE"....:D. Who knows, maybe she'll will it to me:scratch2:

I feel bad that I didn't follow through on my promise to dig out that Sams. I know I have a spare, got lazy!

Some things I ran into on mine: the tuning knob was stuck on. I blamed this one somebody using glue but in fact it was just the reaction of the metals (I guess.) I tried heat, cold, beating on it...nothing would get it to budge. Sadly, when I resorted to brute force I damaged the internals of the Inductuner. Luckily a member here had one NOS that was an exact fit.

After recapping my set had a weak raster, including some video, but then one of the smaller electrolytics (that I had just replaced) turned to smoke. I had actually recapped mine without the schematic; since I had it wired positive to ground I was concerned I had possibly made a mistake. (there are some weird things in that chassis) Eventually I got the Sams and it appears I had it right...but now I can't get the HV to run. Well, the setup they use is different than what I am used to. (twin HV rectifiers, for one) I can't recall if I ever swapped out the doorknob caps, or gave up prior to that. I'll dig back into it again someday. These are a very nicely assembled set-any time that I see the wires tied together with string, I know somebody cared! Unfortunately mine spent too many years out in a barn so the cabinet needs a complete refinish.

Bryan, did yours have a twist-lock fuseholder on the rear apron of the chassis? This one does and i think it was added, 'cause the schematic doesn't have it?

I don't remember it offhand....unfortunately I can't get to the back of it right now without a lot of trouble. The next time I move it I'll report back.
