Mystic 07-01-2009, 06:39 PM British actress Mollie Sugden has died at the Royal Surrey Hospital after a long illness. She was 86. Mollie Sugden was best known for playing Mrs Slocombe in the long-running BBC sitcom Are You Being Served? Mollie also appeared on such shows as Dad's Army, The Liver Birds and the long-running UK soap Coronation Street.
We will indeed miss you, Mollie. :tears:

Your fan, Tom
RobShaz 07-01-2009, 11:38 PM I wonder who is going to look after her pussy.
I loved "Are You Being Served?" It was my intro into British television, after Dr. Who, of course.
Mary Elizabeth Jennifer Rachel Yiddle Abergavenny Slocombe was one of the funniest characters in the history of television and Mollie played her to absolute perfection. What's with the name? Didn't you guys pay attention?
Mrs. Slocombe's parents could not settle on an appropriate first name for her so they gave her four first names. She was twice married and also used her maiden name. Typically daft and typically Mrs. Slocombe. Great stuff!
She was a true comic legend.
AUdubon5425 07-02-2009, 08:40 PM That was the first British sitcom I ever watched and enjoyed (I remember watching The Prisoner as a small child and of course having no clue what was going on.) I always thought Mrs. Slocombe was older - I guess she was in her mid-late 40's when the series started. Must have been the hair.
JBL GUY 07-02-2009, 08:56 PM My local PBS station runs back to back episodes of Are you Being Served
every Friday night...Mrs. Slocombe...One of my favorite characters...
RobShaz ... wonder who is going to look after her pussy.
I imagine that Captain Peacock ended up with her pussy :):):):)
Sorry this will make no sense if you have not seen the program...
Rest in Peace Mollie Sugden
Gunner 07-02-2009, 10:27 PM Captain Peacock ended up walking the Yorkshire Dales in Last of the Summer Wine. I think Mr. Humpries ended up with Mrs. Slocombe.
JBL GUY 07-02-2009, 10:29 PM captain peacock ended up walking the yorkshire dales in last of the summer wine. I think mr. Humpries ended up with mrs. Slocombe.

For those that have not seen the show we are really talking about her cat...
ilikecrumpet 07-03-2009, 04:04 AM Nope, Mr Rumbold ended up with Mr Humphries. Mrs Slocombe thought Capt. Peacock was going to tend to her pussy, but in actual fact it was Miss Brahms and young Mr Grace - they fell in love, eloped to Fiji and lived on an idyllic tropical island. With Mrs Slocombes pussy...
Alan Merritt 07-03-2009, 06:34 AM Captain Peacock ended up walking the Yorkshire Dales in Last of the Summer Wine. I think Mr. Humpries ended up with Mrs. Slocombe.
I think Mr Humphries will be ploughing other fields...I last saw (actor who played Steven Peacock ) in Stephen Fry's Bright Young ThingsI reckon.
In Australia, we've always had most of the British comedies, and this one in particular always takes me back to salad days....
Farewell Mollie
Love Alan and Stanley.
ferninando 07-03-2009, 08:11 AM altho the already mentioned recipients of Mrs Slocombs cat are more likely, lets not forget Mrs Axelby, her unseen friend.
merrylander 07-03-2009, 12:19 PM Our PBS still plays Are You Being Served, As Time Goes By, and the one about The Bucketts. They were playing Last of the Summer Wine and Waiting for God but I don't see them listed any more. Sad to see all those great actors passing, makes me realize that I am not getting any younger.
