A friend of mine has a Sony Sony KV-34HS510 HDTV that's not wanting to power up anymore. Sometimes it will, then apparently it will not turn off.
He did a little googling on his own and came across two IC's labeled MCZ3001 which apparently need to be changed. Can anyone provide me with some more info on this issue?

I'm not familiar with that set, but you should be able to find the answer to the blink code, and troubleshoot from there. I don't like it when a site tells of a particular part being bad, based on a blinked code. I guess if those chips are inexpensive and an experienced source says they're often the cause, it's worth a try (as long as they aren't miserable-to-change surface mount, or 2-sided foil ones). Most often in Sony XBR sets from the early 2000s when there was a "sometimes will start" problem, it was cold solder joints. Just my 2 cents worth...

6 blinks is low B+ or over current protect. Sony manual suggests looking for loads on the +5 line.
7 blinks is loss of horizontal sweep.
I hate the blink codes, because half the time the steer me 180 degrees from where the trouble is.
I keep a couple of those MCZ3001 chips around at all times. IIRC, in this set, one is used to make the B+ supplies, and the other is the HV drive. Not like real TVs where the HV and horizontal sweep are the same circuit.
Those chips seem to go intermittent a lot. My first time troubleshooting a set with them I just about went nuts.

This is why I quit troubleshooting those, and I just ordered new or rebuilt complete boards. $125-$200 for a new board, and a few minutes to address the eEprom, and you're done. No more 6PM-2AM troubleshooting sessions! :banana:
