I contacted the guy with this set when the ad first appeared a few days ago. We agreed to a pick up meeting today (Wednesday May 27). I now have the set in my posession.

It's in pretty decent shape and has a crt that, after a lazy start up, came right up into the good range on the tester. The set looks to be complete and very restorable.

I've put it in line right after the DuMont Clifton I'm finishing up. It should be interesting to compare the two chassis. The Clifton has an RA102, and the Chatham (Dog House) uses an RA103 chassis.

Congrats Bob! Glad you grabbed it, can't wait to see it restored!

At 100 pounds, they do pose a challenge for some. I used to be able to pick up and carry mine, but it has been a few years, and the old back ain't what it used to be!

Hi Bob Glad you got it! My old back isn't what it use to be. I got a 1949Crosley 408? that is simmilar to the Dumont. May even be a Dumont chaiss with continiuos tuning. Cool set but haven't got to it yet. It's got a ton of caps to replace.

Terry, I have a Crosley 9-408 (see picture). Maybe it's not the model you're thinking of? The 9-408 doesn't have continuosly variable tuning and it's an RCA clone. But it did have a ton of caps in it and produces a real nice picture once you get it up and running.

Nice looking set! Mine is a little different 8-409 kind'da ring a bell. Here's a pic of it. I saw the RCA clone on ebay afew years ago. The Crolsey and the early 630ts I've got probaly use $100 worth of caps each. Both have been on the back burner. Working on 16" Zenith porthole from 1950 I've had for a few years now. I get over to Jamesburg for work from time to time. It's about an hour from here.

You're right.....the Crosley TV you have does appear to be very close in layout and appearance to the DuMont set.

Good luck with your Zenith Porthole. They can be a real handful to restore. I spent a lot of time and energy on mine last year. That turret tuner is HUGE!!
Mine is a combo unit and I also had to spend a lot of time debugging the FM tuner. All of the IF cans had bad mica caps in them.

That second Crosley is a DuMont chassis, basically the same chassis as the Doghouse but with a different tuner dial.

Here's a picture of mine, flash kinda washed out the picture a bit. If it weren't for the grillcloth issue, set would be near mint. Model is actually a 1951, possibly named "Churchill", but haven't been able to verify that for sure.

Just finishing up a resto/recap on my RA-103 Chatham. It's running on the bench, been up for about 4 hours now. So far, so good.

Replaced all Electrolytics except that wierd 1.5 ohm biggie next to the 500 MFD 25 VDC, and restuffed all the Tubulars. Got canned section 'Lytics from CE Distribution that fit the bill nicely. Replaced the OFF-On-Volume Switch. I left the B+ Relay bridged shut, as it is long defunct.

Tested and picked a select set of Tubes to complete the resto.

It's lookin' good, cosmetically and electronically.

My cabinet is a mess. Loose veneer and cracking finish. I was thinking this summer I could do the finishing work on the cabinet. Also the crt insultor is cracked would be nice to find a replacement.
