My flea market friend found these two at the dump and brought them to me for repair. Normally, I fix his stuff and then he sells it and we split the money. I'm trying to decide if I want to give him a few $ for these or just let him sell them.

The first one is a 13" Sanyo built Sears color TV from '84. I cleaned the tuner and controls and it works OK. I do need to touch up the greyscale a little.

The second one is a 5.5" Kawasho color TV/radio/clock from '87. It works; but, will need the same cleaning and adjusting that the Sears set needed. The only other Kawasho set that I've seen was a cheap 19" color knob tuner set from around '87.

I suspect someone tossed these because they are old and not HD.

It's the sets like the Kawasho there that make me the maddest about the digital transition. There are so many cool little portables out there.

Nice saves, radiotvnut. That SR2000 is like my 1985 Sanyo. Has a Sylvania tube, FWIW.

I have a 5" B/W battery portable that works very well with my Zinwell ZAT-970A, four AA NiMH cells, a battery holder and power plug (the last two probably the only tinkerer parts still sold at Cellphone Shack).

I've been looking at thrift stores, trying to make a cheap transition to color, no luck yet.

I had a 13 inch Kawasho color TV once. It had excellant black levels, even though the CRT phosphor was as white as printing paper.

That 13" Sears has a good picture. I really like Sears branded sets. Most I have seen were nicely built and good performers. Maybe I'll try to start saving more of them.

The Kawasho (?) kinda needs a bath, but that Sears has an EXCELLENT picture... I agree w/Compucat, about all the Sears stuff I've seen gives a VERY good accounting of itself.

Never even heard of Kawasho.

Is the Kawasho a rebadged Emerson?
Have seen several Emerson portables of that vintage with nearly identical markings.

Just a semi-wiseass educated guess, but I'm thinkin Kawasho might have made 'em for Emerson, who by that time was little more than a trademark...yeah, I've seen-even HAD-one that looked like the double-1st cousin to that one. Pretty good performer for what it was. Had VERY good sound.

At the house I live in 5 days a week, there's a 1982-1983 Sanyo mono 21" color set which is our daily watcher on cable. Picture is superb on it (CRT is still superb on it all these years and original). Sound sucks on it. It's never had a service call. If it had audio out and Stereo that's all I ever desire on it. I am getting a converter box for both functions tomorrow and installing me a stereo receiver and speakers in the living room. I love that old set. Never let us down. I wish newer ones were as good as this one. I have an RCA Dimensia in reserve if it conks out with all the nice goodies. That's a set. Strong CRT on it too!
