My newest find is a 27 inch panasonic CT 27G6E made in July 2001. Powering it up, the TV is alive, but there's no vertical. There's just a line across the screen.
First thing I'm going to do is re solder everything in the vertical circuit, and every large solder connection on the board, as I worked on a 36 inch Panasonic that liked to collapse the vertical due to some loose solder connections...
Apart from checking caps in the vertical circuit, are there any other surprise areas to look at? Assuming I get this up and running, it's going to become a daily watcher.
EDIT: It messed me up. It's a 27G6E... of course the G looks just like a 6

Yep, resoldering the vertical IC fixed it. Found one cap there that tested a tad on the low side.
What kinda irks me is that there's some mild phosphor burn where the line was. :gigglemad I guess its last owners left it on too long like that...
Apart from checking the caps, I guess this thing's ready to go.

Have seen many CRTs with the vertical-collapse phosphor burn. People need to learn that turning down the contrast and brightness really helps if they want to 'listen' to their broken set. :yes::D

I think you've got it licked. Panasonics and Sanyos are known for poor solder connections on the vertical output IC. Concerning the phospher burn, I've seen plenty that had a brown line burnt in the center of the screen. I remember one 19" B&W GE that looked like the owners had been running it for months with no vertical deflection.

The phosphor burn is not very noticible when the set is on, it maybe affects one or two scanlines.
Funny thing is this CRT needed a G2 adjustment. Panasonic CRT's aren't as bad as 90's Zenith CRT's, but they don't seem to hold up as well as, oh say a 90's RCA CRT...
Speaking of Zenith, I also found a 1985 Zenith system 3, maybe 25 inch, particle board cabinet. if it works good enough, it might replace my CTC 120. I like that CTC 120, but its CRT is getting tired... 25 years old so I can't blame it...

I'm so glad I bought a capacitence meter. Yeah I know, an ESR meter would be better, but I can't afford no damned ESR meter.
Anyway, i tested the large filter cap (330uf@ 200 volts) since it's right next to a large resistor, and it tested low, so that's getting replaced. I'm going to throw in another 330uf cap, but I wonder what would happen if I were to, oh say put in a 470uf or a 680uf cap? What would the extra capacitence do?
