Good set. :thmbsp:

Whatcha gonna do about that yoke? Shame, the yokes seem to crack or crumble a lot once they hit forty or so.

But a Philco is always a good find, IMO.

The yoke will probably work fine as-is. I saw sets with yokes that turned to ash 20years ago and they kept working. Just look it over and make sure that the copper windings are not in contact with any other metal parts.

Bob (ohohyodafarted), can probably fix the yoke for you. I think he had a thread in the B&W forums about rebuilding the classic plastic crumbling yoke.

Well, I have the set now. Thanks again, Grimer.

The set actually works well. The yoke itself is intact and working, just the supports are gone. I'm going to try using some liquid nails adhesive and small wooden sticks to get it positioned right.

Very cool styling on this set. One of a kind in a portable, IMHO.

I think this is the model I have, or very close. I took it apart maybe 7 or 8 years ago (or longer?) and had some HV issues. Lotsa trouble to take it apart so I left it in pieces, all in a big box in the attic. Another project, another day...

I don't know why it's nearly always just the back cover of the yoke that disintegrates usually the part around the yoke itself is ok, maybe a little warped.

BTW Bryan just saw your signature line "AMEN" BTW Blue Bell ice cream is still in 1/2 gallon tubs. May just be a local brand around here I'm not sure. They proudly put a banner on the front of the tub, "Still a half gallon"....

Thanks Randy! I need to do some searching...no Blue Bell here, that I've seen, just Blue Bunny. I've only really looked at the Food Lion and every brand there has shrunk. Encouraging that somebody is doing the right thing...whichever brand I find will have my ice cream business!

Now back to your regular programming....

Well I had the set apart just now. Randy, you're correct that the back of the yoke is what is causing the issues. The plastic casing around the windings is fine; I left the back off until I find some wedges to position it on the crt neck properly.
