Hi all,
This is my first post in this forum, I have been active in the audio side but I come to you with a question. I have a Zenith Sentry 2 Television console (type). that I picked up from a thrift. It worked great, looked like the ones my ma and dad had when I was a kid, but after 6 months there are some horizontal lines that plague my screen and high pitched whine from the flyback or yoke I cant nail it. When the screen is black there is no issue.

Just to note I am rather competent with audio and xray equip and have my 10000 v protective gloves to no worries about discharging the crt in my "ground"-- but do you think this is salvageable. I have other sets in the house but this one is my favorite to sit in front and do my admin work. Can anyone give some guidance?

Thanks

Rogers

If you can give a model number, I may have a schematic. On some of those, there was a small electrolytic cap going from pin 2 of the jungle IC to ground that would cause the problem.

A word of warning: I'm not knocking your TV; but, I wouldn't spend much time or money on this set because the CRT's are not known to last long. They will short at the drop of a hat and blow out the power supply and/or video output circuit. Also, the emission will often fall off, causing color problems. This rule applies to most all '90's Zenith's, especially '93 and later.

Thanks for the reply, the model number is SJ2726EW5, I will try to fix it as I have a bunch of electrolytic in variable voltages. Heck this may be a start of a new side of my hobby.

Echoing radiotvnut. Kinda works like this...

*USER* Hi I have a 1990's Zenith...

*AKers* NOOOOOO!!!!

*USER* It has a non Zenith CRT...

*AKers* YAAAY!!!

But yeah. While I have a 1998 Zenith that's holding up well so far, I recently sold a 1994 Zenith that had a rebuilt CRT from 1996 in it... I had to max out the red and green gun controls to acheive a white balance, and the red was still a tad weak... I also have a 1997 Hitachi, which has Zenith guts and a Zenith CRT... picture's tinted green and it has poor convergence and bad color bleeding.

When it is working the color is ok, I figure I have all the test equipment and some components, if I can fix it then it will be an accomplishment. Since it is here it will be an intro of sorts and I can kind of study of of the theory some more. I have been rebuilding older Marantz receivers and building tube amps and I need a break from building audio for a bit.
