I always liked the fact that it was okay to crack each other up...and I believe they tried to do it to each other.

There is a you tube video of Carol acting like a flasher to Conway who is behind some glass. The only thing is (as you can see in the video) She actually is topless. The look on his face is...well... you need to see that video. The audience is amazed also.

I don't know that Moonlighting qualifies as one of "The Best" but my wife and I enjoyed it while it was on.

To me, it's a tossup between Seinfeld and Monty Python's Flying Circus. Both are undeniably brilliant. :yes:

I enjoyed "Night Gallery" it was a Twilight Zone only in color. Wish someone would air it again.

Route 66. Could be sappy at times, but generally good story lines, lots of "up and coming" stars before they -were- stars, plus one more unique quality. The episodes were filmed ON LOCATION. All episodes available on DVD.... and worth it.

Also, there was a show called "Meeting of the Minds" that Steve Allen did many years ago, which was round table discussions between historical figures on one subject or another. Great fun. Steve was quite the inventive guy.

and let's not forget the specials and anthology shows like "General Electric Theater;" "Playhouse 90;" and "Omnibus." These often presented excellent teleplays by the likes of Neil Simon, Paddy Chayevsky, Rod Serling, and many more AND first rate stuff like "Marty," "Requim For a Heavyweight," "The Comedian," and "Twelve Angry Men." They also brought comedy and musical greats like "Amal and the Night Visitors," "Kismet," "Once Upon a Mattress," "Peter Pan," and "No Time for Sergeants," and, more recently, stuff like "Lonesome Dove," "War and Rememberance," and "ROOTS." Who can argue with that?

I can't believe it hasn't been mentioned yet, "The Andy Griffith Show" is TRULY a classic. And for entertainment The Ed Sullivan Show.

Carson was a master. Anyone who thinks today that he was just 'entertaining the old folks' has never really listened.

I prop "Hogan's Heroes" for many reasons (including Carol Kaye's picked bass for the opening theme) not the least of which was that quite a few of the actors who were, as the critics say, playing 'stereotypes' were in fact Jewish themselves, John Banner as Schultz being a notable example.
It could not be done today.

The Carol Burnett stuff... what to say. They managed 'raunchy' within the FCC limits better than just about anyone. Didn't mean that some of the best stuff is the cutting-room things we love.

might sound like silly bubble-gum but actually very deep; great character development, plot twists, complex story arcs. also had the occasional 'experiment' ('Hush', mostly dialogue-free; music epi 'Once More with Feeling'; dreamy/nightmare 'Restless' with a terrif 'Apocalypse Now' parody...)

'Kolchak the Night Stalker'
no-nonsense reporter repeatedly encounters paranormal entities. Unique combination of old-school and new-age sensibilities. One of tv's best matches of actor (Darren McGavin) and character.

'Lost'
hang on and watch closely; even hardcore fans have trouble keeping up with all the details and references. but that's where the fun is. Terry O'Quinn's 'Locke' is a character for the ages.

'Veronica Mars' (first two seasons)
epic teen story arc. serious stuff about murder and family and secrets; hugely underappreciated.

I was thinking myself about the horror movie shows and hosts. These were (and probably would still be)some of my favorite programs. In the Cleveland area there were some great ones. Ghoulardi started it all and was probably the best. We also had Big Chuck and Hoolihan which later became Big Chuck and Little John, The Ghoul (a Ghoulardi spin-off). He left and came back a couple of times.There was also Superhost and then a Creature Feature with count Alucard( Dracula backwards, of coarse). Now we have the Son of Ghoul which can't hold a candle to any of the above, but at least it's something.

Three's Company FTW.

Let me tell you...when you are alone in a photo studio for 5 hours straight and Three's Company is on, you are just enraptured!
