$50 worth of tubes and at least that much more in caps and resistors not to mention the labor! This ain't like putting fresh batteries in an old flashlight buddy boy. But assuming that that's all it takes to get running, don't these era sets run on a different scan rate and are incompatible with postwar/present day? If so, then I suppose that handy dandy converter dealio mentioned here previously would be the way to go.

This may be a very rare and desirable set, but I frankly can't get past the industrial/military appearance. Not a warm and friendly look at all, kinda scary actually.

I don't know, that pre-war look has always attracted me, witness the room full of prewar console radios I've got! This might be a good way to get into the prewar tv business but thats out of my price range.

Wow! 3800.00!! That seller did pretty good. There is a snobby prewar tv collector here in Detroit and I thought for sure he would bid on it as he is of the deep pocketed type. Guess it wasn't mint enough!! (just kidding Darrylh!)

Actually, $3800 is a pretty low price for a prewar TV. Andreas have been selling for $6-10,000. This one was pretty ratty, though. Andreas aren't any more sought after than others, in fact the RCA TT-5 is probably the most desired table model set.

Most prewar picture tubes are impossible to find. Fortunately, the 5BP4 (used in most 5 inch sets) and the 5AP4 (used in the Andrea) are still available at reasonable prices.

1939 sets were designed to work with a 441 line picture. However, they work fine on 525 lines. Sound was AM, but they will work on FM using slope detection.
