Paramount is releasing the first season of classic Trek on Blu Ray.

Now you'll not only be able to see the Duct Tape holding the sets together, you'll be able to see what brand the tape is! :D

They'll also be releasing the Trek Movies on BD.

They had already released it on HD-DVD, so it's not really anything new.

You won't see duct tape, but it will make it easier to see the woodgrain of the plywood used to make the control boards.

"Dammit Jim! I'm NOT buying these damned things again! First on VHS...then on DVD..now you expect me to fork over another fistfull of my hard-earned cash on some new-fangled contraption called blu-ray??!!! And I suppose I'll have to buy a new machine to play them on too! I'm an old country doctor, not some high-priced Wall Street crook!!" (done in my best Bones voice)

Due on Blu-ray April 28 is "Star Trek: The Original Series -- Season One." The seven-disc set includes all 29 episodes from the landmark 1966-67 season of the seminal science fiction series, with the option for viewers to toggle between the original broadcast versions and the recent remastered versions that include enhanced visual effects.

Hopefully, the version with the original effects will be HD. Although most of the new CGI effects are unobtrusive, several of them are jarring and obviously do not fit in with the general look of the show. I have seen some of the new effects because the show was broadcast in HD on a local TV station last year. Based on that, I bought the remastered DVD version that has the original effects, as I do not like the new effects. It was, however, nice to see the show more detailed than I ever saw it before (or since on my DVDs). So, after it comes out, if reviews of it indicate that they did a good job with the version with the original effects, I will consider buying it again. But not right away, as I do not want to pay what Paramount will undoubtedly charge at first. They know how to bleed their fans dry with selling them the same thing over and over again, with prices of new releases being ridiculously high.

Now, though, they are likely to release all three seasons, one at a time, and then again later as a complete set, with special extras, all overpriced at first, so they can bleed Star Trek fans dry. (There were at least 3 different versions of the original Star Trek released on DVD. Who knows how many will come out on Blu-Ray?) Paramount knows how to squeeze as many dollars as possible from their customers.
