View Full Version : Let's talk about LOST
stereocuuple 02-13-2009, 11:58 AM Hey all,
I am sure some of you out there watch "LOST", and as such are probably just as addicted as I am...I thought it would be fun to get some input on what the heck you guys think is going on.
I watch it every time it's on, including reruns on cable, and I literally get annoyed when it's over, I wish the episodes were 2 hours long every week.
Thanks,
Erin
:scratch2:
Snade 02-13-2009, 12:01 PM My wife and I are huge fans. Never miss it.
But the plot started getting confusing last season and this season, boy, it is very confusing.
I know they are in this time warp thing, but I also think this plot line is becoming distracting to the best thing about Lost - the development of each character - you really care about these characters.
We are still watching it, of course, but I hope it starts to be less crazy.
Oh, to answer your question - we learned last week that Jacob told Locke the he should move the island. But the island was moved by Ben. This caused the people on the island to be stuck in a time warp where they jump around in time. To stop the time warp, Locke must find his way off the island and bring back all the survivors that left the island at the end of last season. When they all come back, the time warp will get back into sink.
Or something like that.
Cheers, Snade
stereocuuple 02-13-2009, 12:14 PM Oh yeah , I knew that... do you think Jack will find out that Aaron is his half-nephew?? Or does he already know? I think at this point it's pretty clear Jack's dad is Jacob. I also wonder if Ben will be able to convince Hurley, Said, and Kate to come back to the island. To me, the fact that it's "crazy" is what is the best... Every time one thing is resolved, two more questions pop up to keep you wanting more. It may also be possible that Charlotte is the girl that Faraday put into a coma at Oxford. Also, if he was the one that told her never to come back to the island, and that is the reason she felt she HAD to come back, then didn't he kill her, even if it was indirectly.
Erin
wajobu 02-13-2009, 12:16 PM Sorry, my nose is bleeding.
Locke is the man
Snade 02-13-2009, 12:18 PM I'm hoping Mr. Echo comes back to life. Maybe when they go back in time, they can save him.
There was a hint of that when Hurley was playing chess against an invisible Mr. Echo.
stereocuuple 02-13-2009, 12:22 PM Maybe the time skipping will stop at a time before he died, thus bringing him back to the show... though I think we all know that dying on LOST doesn't really mean you're dead.... Locke has been dead this whole season, but he's still one of the top characters.
screenersam 02-13-2009, 02:04 PM 1) I wonder about Faraday working for Widmore. I don't think they're allies, I think Faraday is using him for resources and opportunity.
2) disappointed that Charlotte died.
3) I like the Miles character. he's no saint but he's pretty straightforward, which is a nice change from all the agendas running around.
4) is Ben good or bad? neither? both? I remember a poison gas plot shortly after the freighter three landed (not the Dharma flashback); was Ben trying to gas the island (again)?
5) where's the stupid dog?
Snade 02-13-2009, 02:21 PM I'm in love with Juliet.
Cantabury Guy 02-13-2009, 03:37 PM IMHO:1. Charlotte isn't the girl in the coma but as she stated grew up on the Island and a few weeks back a young red headed girl was seen to interact with the young Ben
2.Jack does know who Aaron is.
3. Jacob isn't Jacks father but using the convient body/spirit to communicate with the Losties
4. When he told Locke to say hello to my son......maybe not Jack but Widmore.
5. Widmore goes WAY BACK with the Island and maybe the force known as Jacob is his "father"
6. I think Jacob has been in the form of the dog as a convient form to watch the losties.
7. Ellie (the girl with the gun) is Eloise Hawking....Faradays mother.
8. Ben didn't seem to realize Eloise Hawing is Faradays mother.
9. The show is about the concept of time and fate. There are some forces on the island which allowed the manipulation of time and this was done within certain limits and something caused a burp in the flow and basically we see time trying to correct itself . What has happened has already happened....you can't change that....but maybe Desmond...?
EchoWars 02-13-2009, 03:43 PM Gave up on the show a few seasons ago...when you have to start taking notes on WTF is going on, it ceases to be entertainment.
dew042 02-13-2009, 03:49 PM It seems to be dragging in the direction of complication, for complication's sake. I still watch, but not as attentively as a few seasons ago.
dew.

Locke has always been a messiah character.

The bad thing is I have all that in my head. I'm actually quite fascinated with time/fate and the writers seem to share my interest. I hope that they have respect for the viewers and end the program (in 2yrs) in a way we can be satisfied, not like the X Files. Although ,in dealing with time/fate, who has the answers.
grumpy 02-13-2009, 04:23 PM I'm still trying to wrap my noodle around Jacob being jacks father.
I am glad that Suns hubby is still alive. I like him.

Mark W. 02-13-2009, 04:30 PM Oh yeah , I knew that... do you think Jack will find out that Aaron is his half-nephew?? Or does he already know? I think at this point it's pretty clear Jack's dad is Jacob.
Erin
Jack found that out at his dads funneral didn't he.
Mark W. 02-13-2009, 04:32 PM I'm still trying to wrap my noodle around Jacob being jacks father.
I am glad that Suns hubby is still alive. I like him.
I think Jack father is just how Jacob took form I don't think Jacob has a human form but works through others?
As to Suns hubby hmm I guess that now that he caught up with the others he is back. But it seams like he took a shorter time path?
Chazb11 02-13-2009, 05:20 PM Good point from Mark about Jin's time path. When we see the survivors on the mainland it's 3 years after their rescue but when we see the losties on the island re-unite with Jin they don't act as though he's been gone very long...maybe a few days.
They seem to be leading us to believe that no one on the island is either alive or dead, but then the purgatory theory was dismissed by the writers a few years ago.
I'm glad to see the smoke monster coming back!
grumpy 02-13-2009, 05:47 PM Personally I thought the smoke monster was pretty silly. At least they explained a little of what its doing now.

It may be trying to make corrections in the time line. What has happened..happened and cant be changed, thus the "corrections":scratch2:
Snade 02-13-2009, 06:26 PM Ok, in addition to Juliet, I am in love with Desmond's girlfriend - Penny.
Desmond is cool, but I'm not in love with him.

Kate!
grumpy 02-13-2009, 07:22 PM Kate is the most indecisive, irrational, irresponsible, selfish nut job on TV. I liked Claire better.

soundmotor 02-13-2009, 09:03 PM Personally I think L O S T started getting its mojo back about midway through last season. They almost L O S T me season 3 - season 4 1/2 but I hung with it. I am glad I did. I am completely enjoying the plot switchbacks. You recall when Locke met Richard and discovered he had not been born yet and told him his birth date? Now go back to midway through season 4 when Richard visited Locke when when he was a child. This is what I like about L O S T, these are easter eggs for me. My wife, 14YO, & myself are enjoying season 5 as much as 1 & 2.
Random thoughts -
Ben Linus, best villain, better than the Smoking Man even. Pure, distilled evil & maybe the best portrayal of a sociopath put on TV.
Hope Ecko gets folded back into the story somehow.
Sayeed, Jin, & Sawyer on my side if the going gets tough.
Kate gets the Barbi Benton, separated at birth award.
Desmond certainly seems to have the most fleshed out role this season......so far.
Locke rocks, has always rocked.
Like the new characters. Good performances from all, Faraday especially.
Libby, ah Libby. What a shame. Bring back Libby.

Soundthought 02-13-2009, 10:06 PM I'm a big fan of the show. :)
The complexity of it had me hooked from the start.
Endlessly flowing open ended questions with curious twists and turns.
Connections, intersections, and resolutions that seemingly have no end.
Wild stuff, my friends :)
Plus, the way the writers forced us the have a vested emotional interest in the characters is.....I think..... brilliant.
IMO Some episodes/seasons were definately better than others.
But....
Just when I think they've streched the plot line way to thin, they come up with some crazy backstory or unseen connection that just makes you go.....huh?!?...Wow......Cool. :)
I'm really intrigued by the direction it's going, now.
Quantum physics.
Exotic matter.
Intervention of fate?
We'll see.....

stereocuuple 02-14-2009, 12:50 AM IMO, The BEST show ever made...I think because of the character-driven nature of the story, and the fact that even if you know what's going on you never really KNOW what's going on.

Dynacophil 02-14-2009, 09:54 AM mmmmhevery season I miss the first 4 till I get used to the always different daytime it starts :)
sometimes I guess the writers don't know any more how they started and I'm damn sure the don't know how it'll go on. But every season draws me into the story again.
I'm anyway one Season back to to you :)
remember Twin Peaks? This was getting a little bit too.... abstract in a way, but's been nothing compared to Lost
P. Shivers 02-16-2009, 02:36 PM Ah...Penny.
For all you fans of Penny, AKA Sonya Walger, you should check out the movie "The Search for John Gissing." (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0250716/maindetails) It's a pretty funny film from 2001, that was released on DVD late last year. She's very funny, and very easy on the eyes in that film.
screenersam 02-19-2009, 09:44 AM 02/18 epi recap (spoilers!)
great opening--Jack awakes on The Island, drags hurley out of a pond and finds Kate washed up. dream? flashback? flashforward? "46 hours earlier..."
WE FOUND OUT...
The Pendulum Room was a Dharma project designed by an unidentified, extremely bright scientist and his team (barring time travel, not Faraday?). It utilizes some electromagnetic phenomenon to link with similar places on earth (Tunisia, North Pole...) On the wall is a picture of The Island listed as a US Army photo 1954 (Jughead test?) Mrs. Hawking uses the room (as did Dharma) to figure when/where The Island will be, and directs them to take a certain flight. The flight must be as close as possible to the Oceanic 815 flight, so all the O5 (Oceanic Five; the O6 minus Aaron) should be on the plane.
Locke's body is loaded on to replace Jack's father. Sayid appears, cuffed to an unidentified Law Enforcement Woman (replacing Kate's cuffed trip). End of epi; we know at least Jack, Kate and Hurley made it back.
Desmond delivers his message and insists he will have nothing more to do with The Island; Mrs. Hawking informs him 'The Island isn't finished with you'.
Ben disappears to run an errand and boards scratched, bruised and arm in cast.
Lapidus (now nicely groomed) is the pilot; seeing the O5 he observes 'We're not going to Guam, are we?'
Jack/Hurley/Kate are found by Jin, wearing a Dharma coverall and driving the van; his expression is less than welcoming.
questions;
*who/what convinced kate and Hurley to get on the plane?
*where's Aaron?
*what happened to Ben? he threatened to kill Penny (Widmore's daughter) in retaliation for Alex's (his adopted daughter) death (blamed on Widmore). Ben saw Desmond in the Pendulum room; did he track them down? did Violence ensue? If he did get Penny (hope not!) will Desmond go vendetta? might motivate him to go back to The...well, you know where.
*did Sayid willingly board or is he being extradited; if so by whom, for what crime?
*was Jin not happy to see them? didn't recognize them due to time changes? or just the camera didn't stay on him long enough?
*Where are Sayid and Sun? Ben?
*did the plane crash or were the O5 just zapped out?
like any good Lost episode, it asks as many questions as it answers...
Cantabury Guy 02-19-2009, 03:36 PM Not one of the better episodes. I thought the return was "too simple" and Ms Hawking was acting like it was that TV program Weakest Link. I actually felt the way the return was handled was a "Jump The Shark" moment. I was waiting for Fonzie to go water skiing past Hurley. I hope hope this was just a blip and not a loss of creativity and direction.
I would assume Aaron is with his grandmother who was conviently in L.A. That would tie up that issue well.
Jin and his group(Sawyer,Juliet,Faraday) are working in Dharma as that is where they jumped to. Remember Faraday was seen in a Dharma work unit a few weeks back.
Sayid, Sun and Ben are probably in another loop. This is a way the entire long history of the Island can be revealed.
I can't imagine the plane actually crashed because it would be really inappropriate that all the other people would be killed for the sake of the returners.

I wish the damn thing would reach some kind of conclusion. It was OK when it started, but it really is flogging a dead horse now. Is it just a pension plan for the actors left in it?
Snade 02-19-2009, 03:45 PM I can't imagine the plane actually crashed because it would be really inappropriate that all the other people would be killed for the sake of the returners.
I'm hoping the flight attendant survived on the island. She was cute.

They have a set number of shows to do until the conclusion which will be next season. They have actually written a finish to the show and are working backwards to fill in the missing history of the Island.
markthefixer 02-19-2009, 07:44 PM That VW bus was looking pretty shiny and new....
And what about the airline water bottle washing up a few episodes back. (same airline as the Guam plane)
ian@pmc 02-20-2009, 04:05 AM I love the show, everything about it is absolute top notch... Pretty much every character evokes intense feelings... I more or less love every one them. And the ladies are the best part. My top three who I absolutely adore are Juliet #1, she's tough, brilliant, and dependable. Charlotte #2, her story I play into a much bigger picture with Faraday - Remember seeing him when the Dharma initiative reached the energy hotspot? That and she is just beautiful... And then Sun, she has always been a major part, from arriving with Jin in the very beginning, being attacked by Charlie... Her pregnancy, thinking that she lost Jin... Good stuff.
I think Sawyer is one of my favorites, Jack ruined everything and it is all his fault. I would follow Locke. Sayid is more badass than anyone ever. Could Hurley be any fatter? I miss Charlie. Desmond has got a whole world of hurt coming. Penny will will see him leave again. I've come around to feeling that Ben can be trusted, but I know that will change in the worst possible way. Kate is the worst, and she will never change... Everything she touches dies. - Now what did she do with Aaron? Michael deserved a fate worse than death.
Best Show ever, for me up there with Twin Peaks, I don't know if there are any Lynch or Peaks fans around?
screenersam 02-20-2009, 11:49 AM Ben is totally incomprehensible to me. noble villain? murderous (anti-)hero? dishonorable deeds in an honorable cause?
I love Twin Peaks.
soundmotor 02-20-2009, 02:00 PM Penny will will see him leave again. I've come around to feeling that Ben can be trusted
We'll revisit these comments in an episode or two.
My bet is that the way we'll describe the above then will be, 'Desmond is coming and boy is he pissed.'

Soundthought 02-20-2009, 06:38 PM Awesome episode.
I'm liking this season alot.
Given the nature of all the facts available, i'm intrigued as to how they are going to tie all of this together.
It's crazy.
It's cutting edge.
It's something different and new.
And......
the chicks aren't bad, either. :)
Regards,
John.
P.S. Kate.....has always been the hottest of them all.
ian@pmc 02-20-2009, 07:05 PM Sorry Soundthought I have to strongly disagree with that - Juliet and then Charlotte and then Sun.... Then Kate is somewhere in the distance.
Soundthought 02-20-2009, 07:32 PM Naw....
Juliet is too "girl next door"....aka homely.
Charlotte is too rough and quite slavic in her facial features...not my cup o' tea.
Sun, well...she is pristine on alot of levels, but.....i'm not at all into oriental women.....Blah.
Not that I wouldn't toss one in any of them, just for the braggin' rights.
I'm just saying...
Kate is a fine mix of tough and sweet with a hint of self preservation, thrown in for consistency.
Sure, you all might be seeing her as "old hat", or "so yesterday", but my money is on that she is and always be the BEST Bang for Your Buck.
Kate = Yummy.

John

interesting Lost theory
shrinkboy 02-21-2009, 09:10 AM i've watched Lost regularly since it started, and here's everything i can say about it: i'm LOST!!
completely, totally lost. i haven't a clue what's going on there, but i'll keep watching...
wajobu 02-21-2009, 09:12 AM That's the idea, it's like a narcotic, and it's working. :smoke:
shrinkboy 02-21-2009, 09:36 AM exactly-- i think of it as ambient TV-- you get LOST in it, you don't know where its going or where its been, and that's ok, because where you're at right now is pretty good
soundmotor 02-22-2009, 08:06 AM Charlotte is too rough and quite slavic in her facial features...not my cup o' tea.
Slavic? (I'm pretty sure there's a Union Jack birthmark on her butt.)
http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q294/soundmotor/r_m.jpg
Soundthought 02-22-2009, 08:44 AM Ok, ok...
So maybe slavic wasn't the right word.
I guess I can't put my finger on what it s about her..
Though, I must say, she looks pretty good in that picture, there.
Regards,
John.
soundmotor 02-23-2009, 06:25 AM I guess I can't put my finger on what it s about her..
How about, severe, stern, or extreme?
I like her looks (& most redheads) but admit she is not to everyone's taste.

Snade 02-25-2009, 09:28 PM Locke is the man. :thmbsp:

If Ben killed Penny, I am going to be totally pissed.
markthefixer 02-26-2009, 12:13 AM I hope Penny stayed with their son back in the boat in Edinburgh, and that Desmond flew to Los Angeles.
And I'd like to buy a beer for whomever kicked Ben's ***, and mildly remonstrate them for not finishing the job, ESPECIALLY after the motel/hotel room scene...
BUT, you never KNOW whom the Island is going to resurrect next.......
And I nearly fell of the chair when Locke found Ben out cold in the "dispensary".
WAIT till Ben wakes up!!! OHHHHHHHH I can't MISS THAT!!!! :D
uuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhh, HI John........ <gulp>
Hello Ben, wanna try dying????
But he won't, he had to have Sawyer do his dirty work.

See post #43.
(But who knows? She may just end up on the island too, in one state or another.)
screenersam 02-26-2009, 09:26 AM I have tried to give Ben the Benefit of the doubt, but no more. I think he is like the Inquisition; he is on the right side but is fanatical and brutal and doesn't see the big picture, doing things his god, the island, doesn't want done, in it's name.
so; Cesar and the law-enforcement babe; working for Widmore? or another party? the plot thickens...
Snade 02-26-2009, 10:34 AM See post #43.
(But who knows? She may just end up on the island too, in one state or another.)
I'm confused.
Ben said he would kill Penny because she is Widmore's daughter and he sent the mercenaries to the island to kill Ben, but they killed his daughter so for revenge he said he would kill Penny, right ?
And before they got on the plane, Ben told Jack, "Ive got to do something" and the something, I thought was to go and kill Penny. Then he shows up on the plane all bloody, so you expect he was met from some resistance in his mission to kill Penny.
screenersam 02-26-2009, 02:17 PM right; Widmore's mercs came after Ben and killed Alex; now Ben is after Penny. I don't wish him luck.
(Alex was actually the French Chick's daughter, that Ben 'adopted'.)
looking forward to THAT particular flashback.
soundmotor 02-27-2009, 09:06 AM I'm confused.

jimbofish 02-27-2009, 09:47 AM I often wonder if the writers have the whole plot written down from beginning to end or if they're making it up as they go. But then it's way too complicated and interwoven to do that... they'd be LOST also! I love the way little details from seasons ago, come back and tie in to the present shows... and then raise MORE questions. :thmbsp:
The thing about it that keeps me coming back is that there WILL be a conclusion and all will be revealed, unlike Twin Peaks which just stopped. Miss an episode and you won't understand something later. Sometimes I think about just recording a whole season instead of watching weekly, then watching the whole season at once. But, no, I need my weekly 'fix'.
This truly is "Must See TV".

they've already stated that they have their ending and are working to it.
Mr. Lynch &co hoped Twin Peaks would be back for another year or so, thus the open-ended ending.
I've never watched it, but they say 'Heroes' is pretty aimless.
Cantabury Guy 02-27-2009, 02:51 PM Any ideas who this Caesar guy is. Is he a Widmore guy , a Dharma guy or ,this is politically incorrect ,but maybe a terrorist guy who fortuitously finds a hydogen bomb on the Island. After I wrote that I realized he is probably a CIA guy who wants to find that long lost bomb.
mwr885 03-03-2009, 11:48 PM I just started season 4 on DVD last night. I love this show and reading some of these posts has made me excited to get further into the season.
Oh and for the record, Anna-Lucia was way hotter than the rest of the female actresses.
screenersam 03-05-2009, 12:25 PM outstanding ep in my opine. Sawyer/Juliette/Jin/Miles/Faraday are back in 1974 and end up joining the Dharma Initiative after an encounter with the Others. fascinating to see how much of a 'good guy' Sawyer has become. I really look forward to seeing more of the Dharma vs Others history.
"He's got dynamite! He's blowing up trees!"
earlier we saw Faraday working on the underground project wi Dr. Candle. I suspect he'll do a time project that will fast forward our guys back in real time. this might be The Incident referred to earlier in the show.
Juliette is BAD!!!
Cantabury Guy 03-14-2009, 02:14 PM No show this week. Anyone notice all the ancient Egyptian stuff .
1. Hurley drawing a picture
2. The statue that sure looks Egyptian as it is holds an ankh in each hand
3. Paul wore an anhk around his neck and he was killed by the others. Now Horace found it and will something happen to him?
4. Notice the hieroglphics around the Dharma machines.
5 .The Ajira bording pass had hierogyphics on it.
6.The portal Ben and John came out of was in Tunisia...close to Egypt
7.If we talk ancient Egypt ....mideast...could Jacob be that Jacob. If I recall Jacob was a desendant of Moses and Moses's brother was AAron. Claire's baby is named Aaron.
8.And for the strange power on the Island how about The Ark Of The Covenant from Indiana Jones.
Excuse my post migraine ravings.
Cantabury Guy 03-19-2009, 02:35 PM Kind of wrong that Frank the pilot left his passengers to go off with Sun to the main Island.

My guess is it hasn't been changed, Ben would have already know what was going to happen having been there.
Can't really discuss it without spoilers so I'll stop.

markallen 03-26-2009, 02:27 PM Up until this current season (whatever "season" means in this context anymore), my son and I didn't miss an episode. Enjoyed the complexity, and even though it kind of felt like it was being invented as it went along, it was compelling viewing.
What I DIDN'T enjoy was the strange and varied time elapses between "seasons". Sometimes these seemed way too long. Finally decided that I wasn't going to support ABC's jacking me around anymore by trotting out the next segments willy nilly. The complexity of the plot lines is not compatible with this kind of scheduling.
I still think of it as a creative and unique show, but haven't bothered to watch it since. Funny thing, I don't miss it either. It just became too much effort . . .

Catch up. You can watch on the CBS Lost site.
dew042 03-26-2009, 05:56 PM I have to admit, the twists and filling in the back story is starting to be overwhelmed by the horrible dragging pace of this season.

Cantabury Guy 03-26-2009, 06:42 PM I think you meant ABC...
I stand corrected. About 8 years ago the CBS and ABC affiliates here in Baltimore switched and I still make that mistake.

Duffinator 03-26-2009, 09:14 PM I've been following this thread for a while but haven't posted as I usually watch the show a few night after it's aired. I probably won't stay subscribed so I don't accidentally read something before I watch the show. Lost has been just that from time to time but I still watch it and think it's one of the more interesting shows on TV along with Heroes and Fringe.
Off topic: Any one watching Fringe the new version of the X-Files?
Duffinator 03-26-2009, 09:23 PM Locke rocks, has always rocked.Terry O'Quinn was really good in Millennium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millennium_(TV_series)) and of course The X Files movie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120902/) Fight The Future, at least for the very short time he was in the movie.
carbonman 03-26-2009, 10:44 PM Off topic: Any one watching Fringe the new version of the X-Files?
Yes. My wife and I are both addicted. Very well done with great characters.
soundmotor 03-27-2009, 07:06 AM Off topic: Any one watching Fringe the new version of the X-Files?
No, not yet. We'll probably watch it the same way we got into Lost. We missed the whole first season of Lost. I rented a DVD of a couple episodes at Blockbuster, then a couple more, then went to Best Buy and bought the whole season which we ended up watching as a marathon. So, when Fringe becomes available we'll probably buy the set. For now we are staying well away from it.

in case you hadn't heard...Sayid, in 70s Dharma-land on Island, shoots young Ben Linus.
neat moment when Dharma takes him to some guy ('Oldham') living in a teepee on the edge of the compound. "Who's Oldham?" asks Sayid. "He's our you" replies Sawyer. nice line. they have him tied up and take him there and Oldham comes out...with a sugar cube and an eye dropper. Sayid spills the beans, even calling Sawyer by name, and when he admints 'I'm from the future' the Dharma people roll their eyes and Oldham says "next time I'll use half a dropper"; they get the truth and don't believe it.
Dharma Lives!!!
Cantabury Guy 03-27-2009, 12:11 PM Is Ben dead? If Ben from the future shows up in 1977 won't that necesitate young Ben being dead because as the program is set up you have only one presence that shifts through time on the Island(?) Young Ben/old Ben is one Ben too many .
Cantabury Guy 03-27-2009, 03:03 PM From what I've seen young Ben lives, so I think old Ben and maybe Sun never reach the 1977 loop. Young Ben has a mentally and physically abusive father and then gets shot by someone he trusts......could make you grow into a psychopath like Ben.
The Dharma drug guy was named Oldham and the sign (in Russian) on the building where Ben and Syid met said " Oldham Pharmaceuticals" .
Eric H 03-27-2009, 05:31 PM Pretty sure young Ben will survive being shot, remember the island heals people, Locke for example.
qboneus 03-27-2009, 06:12 PM Pretty sure young Ben will survive being shot, remember the island heals people, Locke for example.
true, how many times has locke 'died' and been back like nothing ever happened.
Eric H 03-27-2009, 06:50 PM I can't wait till they find the DeLorean! :thmbsp:
dew042 03-27-2009, 07:21 PM On Ben being shot -- what trained hit man shoots someone once in order to kill them? Not even a head shot. Ben survives for sure.
dew.
That show jumped the shark a couple seasons ago. Now it's desperation time trying to find a plot line anyone can follow and any reason this show should continue.
soundmotor 03-28-2009, 08:54 AM Ben survives for sure.
I'm inclined to agree. And on the kid that plays young Ben, good grief, he's a clone!
William Sanderson was perfect in his role too. Calm southern malevolence.
screenersam 04-01-2009, 11:48 AM we finds out tonight...hopefully.
The Island has given Locke his ability to walk, prevented his death when Ben shot him and dumped him in the mass Dharma grave, and now resurrects him when the Ajira plane crashed. once Smokey spared him (but once took him--I still can't figure that thing out).
maybe Young Ben has some protection that Old Ben won't. (Doesn't? time travel complicates the wording).
I wonder; will the Lostaways figure out a way to save Dharma from the Others? maybe co-exist? would be interesting if Locke gains authority and works with Sawyer/Lafleur...the Lostaways would be the ones in charge!
meanwhile, Faraday is still moling around somewhere...
soundmotor 04-01-2009, 07:45 PM Faraday is still moling around somewhere...
One wonders what other film/TV project he's working on?
Either that or he's locked up in a 3 year fetal position mewling "Charlotte......Charlotte......Charlotte........... ...."
Eric H 04-03-2009, 02:40 AM I loved last nights episode, Hurley looking at his hand to see if he was disappearing like Back To The Future, the Psycho reference made by Ben's Dad, Trying to explain time travel to Hurley :D, and we found out what happened to Aaron.
grumpy 04-03-2009, 06:19 AM Kate is an imbecile. That woman makes more bad decisions then my ex wife. Seriously she has more screws lose then a just bought erector set !
Jack saying F Ben was the highlight of the show.
Snade 04-03-2009, 08:07 AM Good to see Locke again, and I expect him to start kicking some serious ass.
I still love Juliet - smart and beautiful, IMO. Although, if she's not interested in me, I like Juliet and Sawyer as a couple. Jack is kind of messed-up right now, but I look for him to do something heroic later this season.
Cheers, Snade
wajobu 04-08-2009, 08:46 PM Locke, is the man.
Oh no, not Penny.

somebody did die, but minor character.
Snade 04-09-2009, 10:29 AM Sheeeeeesh, I think Penny is OK. I was worried.
The show is all about redemption, so I look for Ben to now become a good guy (until he turns bad again).
Locke is in charge now, as it should be.
screenersam 04-10-2009, 01:08 PM fascinating to see if ben will tag along wi Locke or try to assert himself again? and I'm sure some folks will have scores to settle.
Have we seen the last of Desmond and Penny? I think not.
based on the season's opening scene I kind of think Farraday will pull a cosmic rabbit out of the hat and return the Dharma lostaways to 'real time' where Locke etc will be waiting. (this might be / might have been / will be 'the incident').
screenersam 04-17-2009, 12:04 PM this week a Miles epi. confirmed some earlier fan rumors; Miles is Dr. Candle's son...fun to see Miles and Hurley hanging together...Faraday is back on the Island...one of Sawyer/Lafleur's henchmen saw the tape where they take Little Ben away...'Alex' really slammed Ben; 'You're already planning to kill John Locke'!; let's see how long ben can follow John before playing his own games again...is Widmore super-evil? can he be much worse than Ben?..
Brett a 04-17-2009, 12:51 PM ...Faraday is back on the Island...
When/where was the last time we saw Faraday? I can't remember. I know he was upset by the death of his girlfriend. Then didn't he go back to '77 with Sayer and Juliet et al and see her as a little girl?
Then what happened to him?

He was with Sawyer and friends when they went back to 1977. Now somehow he's been away and comes back as a scientist? There was a flashback scene where he appears to be a worker and Dr. Chen is there. My guess he said something that was impressive and they sent him back to Ann Arbor for training.
If you now have baby Miles and adult Miles in the same time period I think they changed to premise of their time jumps to it now being a parallel universe. If they have done so , it gives them some wiggle room to eventually bring the program to a "logical" conclusion next year.

Eric H 04-30-2009, 09:14 PM Daniel: A. Dead

I thought it was A. but then I thought, what would be the point of his Mother sending him back if she already knew she was going to shoot him?
There has to be some reason she wants him back in 1977.
Cantabury Guy 05-01-2009, 01:59 PM I can't believe they would kill him off but if you remember his mother was sad about it because she knew she would shoot him. They have to be careful about bringing him back as Locke has been killed and brought back and Ben was saved from death. There is a limit how many times you can do the same thing and remain interesting.
Snade 05-01-2009, 02:23 PM I can't believe they would kill him off
Jack will save him.
Cantabury Guy 05-01-2009, 03:01 PM Jack will save him.
Probably, but that's getting to be a cheap cliffhanger.
screenersam 05-02-2009, 11:01 AM did NOT see that one coming...
now I'm wondering...Widmore sent Faraday to the island. Ben is his enemy. Whose side is Eloise on??? she guided Ben and the O6 (-Aaron, + Locke) to return, but she encouraged Daniel to join the freighter crew for Widmore. is she playing them off? is there a 3rd force (Dharma II)? was she trying to help Ben's 'side' but also helping Daniel? (even if she wanted him to be dead is dead, maybe better than being the helpless mental case we saw.)
my darn DVR dropped the last 10 minutes so I'm unclear about the ending..8-(

You can watch the whole program on the web. Go to the ABC site. It looks like the people on the Ajira plane are Dharma II. The guy that tried to talk Miles out going to the Island was one of the guys there now.
Eloise seems to be some kind of guardian of the time line and someone with those convictions would sacrifice a child for the greater cause.

Cantabury Guy 05-19-2009, 02:59 PM Its on the web. As for Jacobs "friend" ...no name given but how about Esau who was the bibical Jacobs brother. Probably to simple but when you watch it you will see Ben make a remark about Moses and Jacob and ?/John make a funny look.

Eloise seems to be some kind of guardian of the time line and someone with those convictions would sacrifice a child for the greater cause.
The rest of the Ajira flight passengers that DIDN'T time travel are more than Dharma II, because they not only knew the answer to the "question", but also what language to answer it in.
And the gal that seems to be leading the "Ajira others", wasn't she the one who captured Sayeed and was hauling him out to Guam as a prisoner???
Eloise was the leader of the others when she shot Daniel, because right after that Widmore seemed to be deferring to her until they were in private. So I guess she was getting notes from Jacob (or was that only Ben who didn't get to meet Jacob face to face?).
Well the writers have until next year to dig themselves out of this hole, but they'd BETTER wrap it up neatly by the end of the series next year.
And this Jacob and "Esau" thing makes the ben/widmore/john locke thing look pretty parochial.
Duffinator 05-21-2009, 10:54 AM And the gal that seems to be leading the "Ajira others", wasn't she the one who captured Sayeed and was hauling him out to Guam as a prisoner???Yes it is.

Lots of speculation on that one. Some substantial "Bibical" connections but a lot of bait and switch going on. :scratch2:
Definitely a love-it-or-hate-it show. Put me in the "hate it" camp. I find it annoyingly disjointed and woefully overplotted yet underwritten.
grumpy 05-24-2009, 02:59 PM I was rooting for the hydrogen bomb.
screenersam 05-25-2009, 09:38 AM Yes it is.

Jacob has the appearance of a 40ish white man. He's been around for many, many years; if the statue is a clue he dates back to ancient Egypt. he has super 'powers', including near-immortality, but apparently there is one way to kill him. His has been controlling the Island and even influencing some residents (our 'Losties') off-Island. Benjamin claims to have been taking orders from him for years, but has never seen him.
Jacob might be a super-powered human, a mutant, even a supernatural being (angel?).
Mark W. 05-25-2009, 11:07 AM Yes it is.
I'm pretty confused on the whole Jacob thing. Can someone enlighten me?
My take on the Jacob thing is the old good and evil routine. If you remember back when Jacob and one other were the only two on the Island waiting for a Sailing ship to arrive they seamed to be at odds with each other over how the Island would be run.
I also think this other guy (I assume the bad guy) is who is impersonating Lock.
Cantabury Guy 05-27-2009, 09:01 AM My take on the Jacob thing is the old good and evil routine. If you remember back when Jacob and one other were the only two on the Island waiting for a Sailing ship to arrive they seamed to be at odds with each other over how the Island would be run.

THere has been a lot of symbolism(black/white) leading in that direction. Maybe the two opposing natural forces are free will vs. fate. I see a lot of that posturing in the discussions between Jacob and his buddy. If you examine the Jacob flashback visits you can see that eternal struggle taking shape.:scratch2:
kvndoom 05-31-2009, 04:35 AM I've watched the first 4 seasons, but only after I can get all the episodes at once. It has definitely held up better than Heroes. Season 1 of Heroes was the best television I have ever seen in my life, bar none. Then it imploded.
Far as the ho's go, Juliet tops my list. Smart, strong, not scared to pull the trigger, and has that middle-aged sexiness that young women are incomplete without. I can't stand Kate at all. She has no brains, and just takes advantage of the fact that men will do anything for a good-looking woman, regardless of if she's worth it or not. I'm still miffed that Hurley's girl got shot. Damn it, fat guys need love too! She had an interesting past that never got developed. As someone said, death is too kind a fate for Michael. I like Desmond, but don't care for Penny. Alex was cool and I'm pissed that she got killed, so if Penny gets whacked in return, I'm fine with that.
(keep in mind I'm Season 5 illiterate, so things I say may be redundant now)
At first I didn't like Sawyer, but he grows on you. He's a much more complex person than the hick he tries to be. Sayid is badass, but he lets people manipulate him too easily. He tries to be a leader but is a follower at heart. John Locke... well, he's John Locke. What else can be said?
shaunhood 06-24-2009, 02:51 AM Lost is pretty cool. I was addicted until season three I got busy so I did not have the chance to watch it.
