Anyone else take secret pleasure in this hilarious sitcom?

A relic from the days when Fox was the rebel network. One of the funniest shows ever. Al Bundy, everyman hero.

Was my favorite show in the 80's.

Although you what's coming, it's hilarious. One of my favorites. My girlfriend hates it, so most of the time I have to watch Friends.... :(

Just watched it last weekend. The one liners are priceless. I love that show. Christina applegate doesn't hurt either!

The early episode of when the young, hot girl moves into the neighborhood, and suddenly, everyone is getting action (because the guys are picturing the hot girl instead of their wives) was truly great.....the sound of birds singing, "especially fluffy clouds in the sky", everyone's in a good mood for a change.

again - priceless. A groundbreaking show.

That show captured married life better than anything else I have ever seen.

While on patrol in NYC in Central Park I see Ed O'Neil walking with another guy. I tell my partner "that's Al Bundy" lets go and talk to him.

As we walk over in uniform he puts his hands in the air and instantly goes into Al Bundy role. The face, the affectations...everything. It was great.

He allowed us to take a few polaroids with him (a ways back huh) and he signs them for us. His friend asked if we wanted us to take his picture and we politely say "no thanks" Ed laughs and he gives us his name. Means nothing to me or my partner.

I get home and show my wife the picture and I put it on the fridge where it still is today. She says big deal. I then say he was with so and so and she freaks out. Apparently the guy was some huge soap star that all the women went crazy over.

She could not believe I didn't get a picture with him. hahahahahah too bad.

You got an old woman scared of rain. Then you try and clean and jerk your breasts into a bra, ease some exercise pants over that front and back belly, go down to the market and flirt with the bag boy. I guess what I'm trying to say is it's just pretty pathetic when we guys try to cling to our youth.

Loved it in the '80s and still do! I watch it whenever I catch it. chillwolf, there is most certainly a little of Al in all of us guys!

That has to be one of my favorite shows of all time. Yes, I am an idiot :D The one-liners are in a league of their own, you'll got that right! And Christina Applegate in her prime is a splendid touch :yes:

Here, it's on at 5:30 AM as well. Sometimes I get to catch it. Great sitcom. Al Bundy, Bud, they all rule.

The most I've ever seen of it was commercials, and I usually changed the channel even for them.

You know, Ed O'Neil is from the Mahoning Valley in N.E. Ohio, just like me. He's from Youngstown, and I from Newton Falls. The broken down look, the tone of hopeless reignation, and the smart assed sarcasm. Trust me, there are tens of thousands of Al Bundys in the Steel (Rust) Valley, married to women like Peg. "What? They've shut down the mill, and you're unemployed? That's okay, Honey. Just go soak in the Jacuzzi I just bought. When you're good and relaxed, I'll take you for a ride in my new Escalade. If you don't find another job before the next payment comes due, I'll just file for divorce and marry my Chiropractor. See, Sweetums, everything works out in the end."

Watching "Married with Children" always made me homesick.

This is one of my all time favorites. It is the longest running sitcom; The Simpsons is the longest running cartoon show.

The one liners are priceless. The hot girls are stunning. This show is hillarious.

A great sitcom. Does not go to social issues, does not have any hidden meanings. Simply a look at what many men go through in real life and put up with or how we view what marraige is about.

That show totally was in my opinion ---a loser.
Everything was of the sex nature.
And Marcie was a winny little B***h.
Peg was ugly as sin.
All that Al did was piss and moan---------
I hate that show after watching it a few times.
Typical 80's sitcom -- in a class with the Roseanne Barr show from the same era.

James, you got the message bang on. What happens to many men in middle age when they wake you with the brats they'd only wish on someone else, a wife who promised s much ad delivered so little, a typical suburban neighborhood where you hate your next door neighbor, or at least the wife and have some envy at the success of the husband until you find out he is like you only with more material wealth and pressures and you want and dream about what could have been and doing things to show you are still that young stud and can bed the 18 year olds but that bubble also keeps getting burst.

In some ways it is another take on middle America not too unlike Archie was a take on the transition from the America that predated the depression and through the '50s to the modern '60s so to speak. Archie though looked at the larger issues of the day and worked them into the script while MWC was more micro in the issues it centered on and while bringing them into the scripting did so only with innuendo and did not make it a center of the show except very occaisionally.

Some great individual shows: The Memorial Day BBQ, "Scrub Harder" "No fish will ever touch my grill." Marcy's grandmother's ashes.
Bubba Smith as Al's high school football rival, "Wanna see a picture of my wife"... "Oh yeah, here's one of my mother in law."
The girls go to the strip club.."So you lost your wedding ring down Zorro's pants."
Al takes Bud to the strip club, "Where the beer gives you gas and the Bundy's kick ass, at the Nudie Bar."
Kelly at the dance recital, dancing to "Fever" while her teacher mauls Al in the audience.

The list goes on, it was an irreverent but funny show;.

Not a secret pleasure at all.. I`ve been a huge fan, since the dawn of time! I have no idea how many episodes I`ve seen, but I`m sure I`ve seen a "million" episodes, more than once :scratch2:

I always liked the fact that the show tried to be irreverent,but was also ahead of the curve socially,or,if youd rather,"Politically Correct":The episode where Al befriends a gay man because he can cook,and loves sports.The black men who are Als friends are just one of the guys,and not some hip,urban stereotype.I remember an early mention of Tiger Woods as having made a deal with the devil because "no one is that good".Predictable,but often very funny.

There was a morning zoo radio show down here that paraphrased the opening theme, "Love & Marriage"- "Lotsa Cleavage, Lotsa Cleavage, Sunday nites on Fox there's Lotsa Cleavage..." It wasn't a must-see show of mine, but I usually got a pretty big kick outta it...My mom thought Ed O'Neill was about the most vile man she'd ever seen on TV...
