I was watching the Orange BAFTA (British Academy Awards) on BBCAmerica last night and have always wondered: why Orange?

I assumed it referred to the company "Orange" (network servics of ssome sort) who probably gave them a big discount to be mentioned.

Unless you KNEW all that and your question is more along the lines of "Why ORANGE? (As opposed to some other/better network services provider)" ?

Nope, I've never heard of that company. I thought the Orange reference might be some arcane kind of monarchist thing like a royal warrant. You know, like William of Orange or Admiral of the Blue.

We have an Orange, VA from back when limeys (did I say that?) had us as a colony.

And Orange used to make killer guitar amps; different company I think.

Orange is just a name of a telecommunications company. I used to have a few shares in them.

One of their advertising catchphrases was "the future's bright, the future's Orange". They didn't use that advertisement in Northern Ireland because of the William of Orange thing, although there is no actual connection (no pun intended) to it.

Here I was expecting some wonderful story and it's just a case of corporate sponsorship.

Next you'll tell me the Stig doesn't really sleep inside out.
