In the late 70´s I watched on TV a russian (soviet) science fiction movie that I´ve never seen shown again. It was shot on black and white film, and dated from the 60´s or perhaps early 70´s. It involved very little spoken dialogs, and long scenes with the music background provided by the well-known adagio for strings composed by Albinoni. The plot was drammatic, possibly ended in tragedy, like with all the spaceship crew dead. I vaguegly remember a spaceship that founds another one, with no survivors on it. The cosmonauts walked exploring the empty spaceship with shoes that had some lights on them as they clamped the floor in the absence of gravity. The music of Albinoni gave the whole episode a very dark and tragic atmosphere.

Now I am thinking about the way we store information in our memory: I´ve seen this movie once on a TV broadcast, more than 30 years ago. The visual elements in the film are as I recalled them, but not the music! The Albinoni adagio has nothing to do with it. Thinking about the way our memories are stored and recalled, it came to my mind that incredible masterpiece of Alain Resnais, "Last year at Marienbad" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Last_Year_at_Marienbad ), that brings in this subject in a provocative and clever way.

I remember that movie, I saw it at least 35 years ago. I remember the other ship being named the Tornado.

It's been so long, but I remember thinking the film was Italian. And very badly dubbed into english. I remember the ending sucked, now I see from what was at imdb that American Internation made a new ending that wrecked the film. So, I have to wait untl I have some extra cash and find this film, again.

Glad to be of assistance. I hate not being able to remember movies as well. I've never seen either version, and with all the reviews posted I really want to Czech (sorry) it out. The restored DVD is available on that auction site for not a whole lot of cash.

I watched it! It's very good, the scifi was on the same level as the original Outer Limit's TV series of the same year.

The external SFX were a mixed bag, some were pretty good, some, not so much.

Acting and directing were excellent, at a level seldom found in SciFi, the Cinematography was outstanding.

The American International version is horrible, however, having seen most of the scifi films of the sixtys, I have to say Ikarie is one of the best of the decade, p
ossibly one of the best ever.
