Saw it and I'll save my criticism for now but to say it was a dissapointment is an understatement.I found it overly long and slow...I guess I shouldn't compare it to the original but why the hell can't they just leave the good stuff alone.What next Gone With The Wind or Casablanca??Just my opinion.

Right, most of the reviews are like yours. They say all the best scenes are in the trailer and it's slow and disappointing.

Why make a bad remake of a classic ? Oh well, most will continue to remember the greatness of the original and forget this new one.

They make these sequels because they're trying to make a buck. You'd think that if they're trying to make a $, they'd do a bang-up job so they can make a lot of $. I've only seen the trailers, but when I saw it I thought:

1) They have the potential to have good plot & some great visual effects
2) Rennie seemed to have more life to his acting than Reeves

Oh well...............

I saw it last night. While not great, I enjoyed it. I try and see things with fresh eyes and open mind, like I was seeing something for the first time. I kept the old preconceived, comparative baggage at the door.

It's more fun that way. :)

I am going to see it later but have mixed emotions . As you can see from my signature I am a huge fan . The movie was so far ahead of it's time . A classic . Also Time Element my sign on is the name of the first episode of The Twilight Zone

Thought it could have been a whole lot better if not for that lame ending.

He just leaves, with no message to humankind? WTF?
That was one of the best parts of the original, and the
whole point of the story.

I like action, but I also like a story with some sort of point.
One without the other is just a waste of my time.

Glad I went to the matinee.

I must say I admire your ability to set those things aside...

My own ability to suspend disbelief is entirely predicated on the storytellers/filmmakers ability to sell me on the concept. I have found that I can watch Our Town with a great cast, presented on a set consisting of a table and handful of chairs, and have no problems whatsoever enjoying the story; but if a film wants me to believe that an actor is a hardened man of the world, weary and wise, they're going to have to show up with something better than Ashton Kutcher. Additionally I can't view a remake of anything I have watched and enjoyed previously, without comparing it to the original. Nowadays, with CGI and giant explosions being the rule of the day, and plot almost an afterthought, well...

Not to mention that every time I see a Keanu Reeves film, I find myself hearing; "Strange things are afoot at the Circle K" and the fourth wall falls down flat. To me Reeves has one note, and although it can be a good note (Bill and Ted - The Matrix) it wears thin when it's applied to other roles. Before I be accused of slamming Keanu: he's not the only actor I feel this way about. John Wayne as Genghis Kahn or Kevin Costner as Robin Hood are a couple of prime examples of bad casting IMO.

It's just painful to watch... Like seeing an auto accident happen on the interstate. You know what's coming, but you're powerless to do anything about it.

Speaking of Genghis Khan, if you haven't already, check out the 2007 movie release of Mongol. A movie about Genghis Khan. Completely original as far as I can tell and actors you've never heard of. Unless of course you know a lot of Mongolians. :D

Actually the main grown up character is Japanese and the director is Russian.

Almost pulled that from redbox last night but got 'Hancock' instead and laughed through most of it. Looks like DTESS is on hold until it shows up in redbox which judging by the reviews might not be that long of a wait. John Wayne as Ghenghis Khan, Oooooooooookaaaay! Would have loved to have been a fly on the wall during that casting discussion. And did you know that a number of actors on that film (Wayne included) died of cancer later? No proven link but..... the location shots were downwind from the Nevada above ground nuclear test range and to finish some of the shots, dirt was trucked to the studio where the actors continued to be exposed to it.

I don't know who he's blown to get where he is but his line delivery, and acting in general, is humorous at first...quickly turning to agitating

they say that the flick is very very incorrect in many ways...but I am dying to see it anyway..:thmbsp:

I saw it on opening day right after work. It was OK but left me wanting for something more substantial. I still think they might have done better coming in with a sequel as a follow up to the fact that we are still bent on destroying ourselves and Earth with us. Sending out an army of GORTS and kicking our ass into submission would be more meaningful.
Special effects were good and Jennifer Connelly is as beautiful as ever.:naughty:

Seeing Jennifer Connelly is the only thing good about this movie.Saw it on an IMAX screen,fed by a digital DLP projector and I thought the image was lifeless. The movie was all about special effects and overpowering sound.I left in total disgust and a major headache.
