I tried to list them all in my head, but my processor locked, and smoke came out of my ears :)

I only really remember the first 5 or 6 sets I had, then literally 1000s, or tens of 1000s passed through my hands between 1976 and now. Amazingly, I still have the very first set that I bamboozled a neighbor into giving me when I was 9. It's a 23" Magnavox B&W wood table model with remote. Circa 1959. The second one was a 1955 RCA 21" console, and the third was an RCA 19" plastic portable from about '65. I still have the RCA portable, and it still works (afaik). Then I met another neighbor who was a TV nut, and I got an Emerson 21" console B&W with doors, a Sentinel console with upside-down chassis, and a Motorola late 50s metal 21" table model. Later from the same neighbor, a Curtis-Mathes 23" combo, an RCA CTC-19 metal table model, a Hitachi 19" color tube set (metal table model), and probably a couple more. This would be around 1978-79. Beyond that, the memory is spotty. My first small round tube set that I got as a collectible TV was a Hoffman 10" blond table model with doors. That was in about 1977. All of the others I mentioned weren't meant to be collector TVs... They were still new enough at the time to be daily watchers, if working! My first color TV was a 1967 Packard-Bell 21CT7 roundie. I remember being fascinated that it was the same age I was, and it was 10 years old.

That makes 14 sets, 5 of which I have now. Of course, I'm just beginning to learn about repairing these. Wish I still had my parents' 1970 RCAs and that 19" '77 B&W Zenith, that TV saw a lot of use between my mother and I over the years.

I'm just going to go with TV's that I actually owned and watched for awhile, rather then TV's that I either found and pitched, or parted out.

First TV that was specifically mine, that I paid money for was a 1978 RCA colortrak. Bought it at a junk store. What CTC it was I have no clue. Had one dial for VHF and some UHF channels. Also had a light sensor to brighten or darken the picture based on the light level of the room.

The first large TV I had was a 27 inch Curits Mathes TV I believe. Made in 1991. probably a rebadged Zenith now that I think about it. By the time I got it, the CRT had a green tint, and the corners were very fuzzy. That one didn't last very long...

First new TV I had was a 1994 Emerson TV/VCR combo. VCR part had dead bugs in it when we bought it. a few years later, the VCR part crapped out and I sold it.

My mom's TV was a 19 inch 1991 RCA Colortrak 2000. That TV eventually became mine, and I ended up selling it because of a tiny nick in the screen that just bothered the hell out of me, and a slightly tilted picture.

Various 13 inch color and B/W TV's. a TV made by Portland from 1983 that had a concave picture, and was very out of focus. Did not know about focus adjustments at the time, nor about filter caps/power supplies.

Right now I have two RCA colortraks from 1984, one being a 25 inch console with A/V inputs. I also have another 1991 Colortrak 2000 that I've been slowly recapping. This one has no tilted picture. I have a 27 inch Zenith from 1998 that I'm currently letting someone use, and I have a 56 inch RCA projection TV that I let everybody else use, because I'm just not a fan of projection TV's.

I could but, there's no way I'm going to type them all out. Nor am am I going to sit and think about it that much. I too would have smoke coming out of my ears. LOL!! Maybe one rainy day I'll bump this thread with my list.

At one time I had an RCA CTC-92 with an intermittent tuner problem that got worse and worse till finally it went out completely, not to mention the picture tube being worn.

All the above got junked at different times because we didn't have the room at the time...

Now, I've started collecting TV's again, and have more space this time, and I keep finding all Zenith this time!!!

There's the 3 I recently posted and that includes my first 1950s TV I've ever owned.

I also got a couple of Sony Trinitrons, one with a 12" picture tube and the high voltage section also has a tube, looks similar on the inside to a KV-1200, works for the most part but has some minor problem where you can see parts of the vertical spacing bar fold over to the top of the screen mostly when watching Macrovision processed content, and sometimes the CC info. The other Trinitron, 17" I think, has a worn out picture tube. Also got a KV-1222 in pretty good conditon, and a KV-1311CR that just recently developed a problem where the picture has pulled away from the right side of the screen a bit.

My grandparents gave me a nice RCA hybrid that still worked but had a worn picture tube, unfortunately it eventually got tossed, which is a non-issue as the Chromacolor more than makes up for it!

That's about it, aside from some portables I have kicking around.

Fisher 20" TV from 1991 (1991 - 2002) It pretty much became my TV in 1998. Picture started getting distorted in 2001. By 2002 there was just a little bit in the center. I'm guessing the vertical output went dead. I wanted to get it fixed but it got trashed in 2005.

RCA 20" TV from 1988. My first tv and it was an extremely weird set. I called it the "Ghost TV" because it had a mind of its own. It was given to me by the landlord in 1996 and died in 1997 with a slap to the top by my dad. The TV would occasionally freak out and do goofy things like change channel or increase the volume by itself. Being only 8 years old when I had it, it really freaked me out.

You're ahead of me then... I can only remember the first few dozen :scratch2: Until about 10 years ago, I'd buy & sell cars used & trucks faster than most people go through library books. I've always liked cars & trucks, and I'd get bored fast. I don't think there's a postwar car make that I haven't owned at least one of in the last 25 years... I've even had Studebakers. Corvettes to Volkswagens, Toyotas & Nissans (Diesel & gas), to Subarus, Cadillacs (Diesel & gas), Dodges, Plymouths, Chryslers, and even a DeSoto... Fords, Mercurys, Lincolns, & on & on. Same with motorcycles (Japanese).

In 2005, I sold off most of my Toyota Diesel collection (I think I had 14 of them at the high point), and kept only a few, so between Kay and me, there are 6 pickups, an SUV, a sedan, 6 dirt bikes, 4 dualsport bikes, 2 street bikes, 2 quads, and a Kubota Diesel tractor (and 1/2 of a Japanese import Toyota Diesel sedan). Oh, and let's not forget Kay's Grandpa's horse-drawn Surrey that's sitting in the garage. I think it's time to figure out priorities and sell a few :tears:

Growing up, we had a 1972 Zenith console, model C4736M1, the "Daumier". (Thanks to drh4683 for identifying it!)

That lasted until '83, when we replaced it with a Sony 26" set - KV-2670R - sorta a pseudo 'console' but more of a table top set. It had the single RCA jack for stereo sound, presumably by using a Sony receiver. It also had a single jack up front, behind a door in the lower right corner for hooking up a video game system, and those cool fluorescent green on screen displays. Not sure, but I remember someone at Macy's saying it was Sony's first 26" trinitron. That set lasted until the mid-90's, when like most Sonys the focus went soft and the reds & blues started fading away. My parents ended up replacing it with a 32" Sony XBR set when they first came out, which has had numerous issues (including the tuner not working, which took several attempts to fix), but they still have it now.

I started out with a '75 Zenith 12" B&W solid state set, which never failed once. Did plenty of E-skip dx'ing with that set.

Replaced it with a GoldStar 13" color set in '84 which ran daily for the next 15 years (since my parents 'appropriated' it to use as their kitchen set), no failures in that set either until the CRT started going bad.

Picked up a '76 Zenith Chromacolor II 25" console used in '89 - was sitting on the curb in front of a senior apt. complex. Nothing wrong with it at the time, was a daily watcher for a couple of years. Not bad for a free set. Still have it, awaiting new tripler.

I had an '87 RCA XL100 20" stereo set - don't remember the chassis number, it had the LED's above the CRT for 'Stereo', 'Power', and something else. Very rudimentary on-screen channel display, everything else was knob adjusted. That set had a few bad solder joints between boards, but otherwise lasted me for about 7 or 8 years. Gave it to my brother who proceeded to kill it in about a week. Figures.

Also had a GE 19" stereo set in the BPC, new in '94. Watched that for a couple of years - then gave that set to my brother who killed it in about 2 months.

Have a '97 Zenith 25" 'Concierge' TV - interesting story behind that one. I was an engineer for a local hotel which used these sets. About 6 months after opening, a guest decided to use the sprinkler head on the wall to hang some dresses on hangers. Well, of course the sprinkler head let go and destroyed everything in the room. During the restoration process, I took the TV back to my shop to let it dry out and went ahead and ordered a new tv for the room. Well, after a few days I plugged it in and the darn thing worked like new! So, instead of it hitting the dumpster as planned, it somehow made it to my trunk and then my living room that night. Watched that set from '98 til 2006 with no issues. Still have it in storage.

Currently use a Sanyo DP32647 32" LCD HD set as my daily watcher. Decent TV which apparently is still being made, but selling for half the price now, vs. what I paid for it in '06. Great tuners, good color and HD looks good via OTA reception.

- '77 GE 19" color - was junk the day they made it -very low hour set that I never used, went to the dump with it back about 10 years ago. Only thing different about it from others I've seen was the backlit channel indicators off the side of the tuner knobs, like the consoles had. Most of those sets just had the channel numbers printed on the knobs.
- '76 Sony 9" Trinitron - let our security officers at work use that for years until the flyback cooked one night.
- some small sets like a Sony MegaWatchman (new), an RCA 5" color (used)... not sure what happened to those.

Down in the garage now sits that '76 Zenith console, '82-ish Sony KV1547R, '74 Zenith, '65 Sylvania roundie, and a '82 Quasar 19" color set. Would love more roundies, but they're damn scarce in these parts. Nobody around here keeps old electronics.

First Colour TV for the family - 26" Phillips Modular 4 - 1974. Lasted until 1986, when my dad gave it to friends just moving into their own apartment.

Then, my dad got one of the first Flat Screen Stereo TVs - a Toshiba 20" with DBX Noise reduction - $900 new! It's my bedroom set now and has a better picture than the set my wife bought before we got married - a GE 28" that's about 8 years old.

And a 26" Zenith Space Command (System 3) sits in the basement - it will be sold with the house - soooo heavy! Was given to me by my brother, who bought it off my aunt - the original owner in 1973/1974. It's silver and has thumbwheel tuners, is meant to sit in a corner. Has that Zoom feature, but I lack the remote. It would have been a top model , because her philosoghy was "nothing but the best"

That's an easy one for me, because I've owned 3 in my adult life, unless you're including the ones my Dad had.

1977 - 1968 model Motorola TS90? ch. 23" Color. I replaced the CRT in HS. Set and used CRT obtained free from a TV shop.
1980 - Sampo 19" Color set
1982 - Portland 19" Color - Purchased at one of those truckload electronics and tool events.
1994? - RCA (Thompson) 20" Color - Still in use
2001 - House brand 20" flatscreen CRT set - Still in use

My sets:

1998- 1989 model Mitsubishi 26" Color - Obtained used from a TV Shop. Still my daily watcher.

All above sets were excellent with the exception of the Midland B/W set my parents owned, which barely lasted the length of the 2 yr. extended warranty they purchased ---for $7.99 on a $90 TV! All my parents sets (except the Midland) survived very high hour use (~15 hours a day X 7) for at least 5 years each.

I repaired each of my parent's sets (1959 RCA, Zenith roundie, Midland, K-Mart, Sampo) at least once each while in high school, and for a few years afterward. The Sampo was my fav to work on due to ease of access, and well marked schematic supplied with the set. It only had one trouble - a jungle IC that caused a blooming pic. This was very easy to troubleshoot with a voltmeter. The DC level in the brightness circuit was way off.

My mom still has the Zenith roundie and the Motorola, but it would take at least a CRT, flyback and yoke to make the Zenith fully operational again. It is a VERY high hour set that marginally works with weak raster, good sound, and a lot of snapping and popping. The Motorola needs a focus resistor (big potted block unit), made from unobtanium.

I've had numerous other sets that I got while in HS from TV shops, including a GE 1950portable B/W, and another 1965 Motorola color, but the sets listed above were most noteworthy.

I pretty much quit TV repairs for the family in about 1985, but I do enjoy reading about the exploits of other AK members.

How many pages am I allowed to use? Seriously, it would take several pages if I could remember every single one of them. I'll just hit the high points:

Childhood TV's that actually belonged to my parents:

1. '77 19" RCA colortrak with single knob tuner.
2. '83'ish 19" NAP Magnavox remote set with 19C2 chassis.
3. Early '70's 9" GE AC/DC B&W in leather case (that was their motor home TV before it became my bedroom TV).
4. Early '70's Midland built Truetone metal cabinet 13" color tube set. Dad bought it used and it became the new motor home TV until it died in the late '80's.
5. Late '80's Emerson 13" color. This replaced the Truetone tube set.
6. Early '80's Zenith space command 25" console. This was inherited from my late uncle and replaced the worn out NAP set above.
7. 23" Zenith CCII console. This was one I found to replace the other Zenith console when the 9-160 module went poof.
8. 25" RCA CTC120 remote portable. This replaced the CCII when my Mother bought a wall unit.
9. An afterthought. '80 19" Zenith space command. My dad found this on the roadside and had the 9-160 module changed. That set wound up in the youth room of my old church and is probably still there.

Here are some of the more interesting sets that I remember finding. None are still with us today. They either got fixed and sold or thrown away when I couldn't fix them or because I was feeling pressure from my parents.

1. 19" RCA B&W from about '63. 1st TV I ever fixed. Used it in the bedroom for awhile.
2. Early '70's 19" Philco-Ford B&W w/UHF. This replaced the RCA above.
3. '75 19" Zenith CCII space command. 1st color TV I fixed. Sold it for $50 in '91.
4. '80 19" Magnavox motel set. Used in my bedroom for a few years.
5. '90 27" RCA Colortrak 2000 portable.
6. My uncle's '66 Zenith color set. I still have the cabinet and tube. The rest got disected long ago.
7. A couple of Zenith roundies that I tossed because I couldn't fix them at the time. I promise not to do that again. Please give me another chance!
8. A Magnavox roundie that got thrown out because I couldn't fix it. Side of the road find.
9. A Muntz rectangular color console. Chassis was an RCA clone.
10. Many late '60's/early'70's Zenith color consoles. Most of these were fixed and sold.
11. 23" Motorola color TV in a beige metal cabinet. Worked except for a bad 23EGP22 CRT. finally junked it.
12. 23" Motorola color tube console. I fixed it and sold it.
13. Several GE portacolors
14. Several Zenith CCII's and 4-tube hybrids
15. Several RCA's with the stand up solid state chassis.
16. RCA CTC40. Had a burned yoke and I junked it.
17. Various B&W metal portables and consoles from the '50's.
18. Early '60's Magnavox B&W TV/stereo combo. Kept it for years until I ran out of room!

I remember one black and white TV we had,a small one in the 80s that had a FINE TUNING knob........ It was QUITE USEFUL for "fine tuning" scrambled signals in :D (Especially if there was no channel up next to it (31/32 for example (If nothing was on 32 it was a bit easier)))

My Current favorites are my 1987 Emerson and Amtel. I'm not sure why I still own the infamous Funai SV2000, I don't have any interest in it I just thought I could make a few bucks off of it since I found it for free and it works. I only share Interests in Televisions from the 1980's and maybe the 70's, that being said I'm not all too proud of my sets from the 90's though.

My first TV was a 13" Capehart woodgrain from the 80s that my neighbor was throwing out. It always had white lines at the top of the screen but it didn't bother me, it was my first TV in my room. My parents bought me an Orion VCR to watch movies on it.

Then another neighbor threw out a 1994 RCA ColorTrak 19". I brought it home. It worked but always had a faint hum and had a funny color to the picture. Sometimes the picture would shake and I would smack the top of the cabinet to straighten it. LOL I used it until the sound went out. Then my parents bought me a new 20" Panasonic for my birthday in '04. Loved that set, but it got hit by lighting and I got a Sylvania (dreaded Funai) 20" flat CRT. Big downgrade to me, but there weren't many CRTs left in the stores by that point, so options were few.

The living room console shorted out around 2001 and my parents replaced it with a 32" Sanyo. Loved that TV too but it died and was replaced by a Westinghouse flat panel that never had a great picture. We wished we still had the Sanyo. My mom accidentally knocked over the Westinghouse and it was replaced by an LG LED TV which was an improvement.

I did also have a 1990 white Mitsubisi 13" that I dragged home one day from a neighbor's trash. I kept it awhile but it always had a blurry picture for some reason even when the signal was good and I could never program channels because there was no menu button on the front and I did not have the original remote. It would just show three green dashes when you changed channels. I forget what I did with that.

Oh and I still do have a 1985 Emerson 5" portable TV/radio. It's pretty much useless now.
