I've seen a few pictures of this set before, and I remember hearing some positive things about it, as if it were rare. The cabinet is curved, front is silver plastic, and the top and sides are a fake wood print. The number 38 is stamped on the back surrounded by a diamond. I believe its a Zenith "system 3" and this nifty digital/analog tuning system. It gets a reletively good picture. The focus in the center is off, convergence on the sides is off a bit, and the top and bottom of the picture are pushed down about .8 inches. I'd like to get this set back in order, as its quite funky to look at. This is my first solid state tv, so be nice :) Is there enything else interesting I should know about it? like what remote it uses? ect.

focus is an easy adjustment.
if you cant get it sharp all across the focus pot may be bad.
these work similar to the dual focus system in large pc monitors but with one pot.
tweaking vertical size will fix the gaps.
the convergence may be a bit of fun and may never be perfect.
the edges are adjusted by tilting the yoke.
center is done with the neck rings.
if the crt was replaced in the past with a cheapie rebuild that would explain the focus and convergence issues.

I like your set!!! Zenith made those sets in both the Chromacolor chassis and the System 3 chassis. If it's a delta tube it's Chromacolor, if it's an in-line tube it is System 3. If it's a 1980 set then it is probably a System 3. Those sets weren't too bad to work on. I remember going to a Zenith Seminar when those came out. System 3 was designed with everything on 3 plug in type modules (for easy repair for the service tech) and has the Triple Focus picture tube (hence System 3) Look on the schematic and see which modules that set used. I have quite a few NOS modules laying around for a System 3 set, and will give them to you if you could use them.

Im glad you like it jstout66! I wont really be able to work on it, or any of my tvs, radios, and other projects untill the 18th (I'll be out for summer then *cheers*)

I'm really not sure what year is, as I just guessed from the 1980 system 3 add on tvhistory.tv. Its actually a chromacolor II, but when I first posted, I hadn't taken a good look at the set yet.

Heres the deal: I have no space, and although I love the set, it cant sit next to my '87 Saab for ever, and I was thinking of selling it to the right buyer ;)

Heres a screenshot of UPN

Looks like you found a way to get the bugs out of it :p:

Not really bgadow:p:, Ive only adjusted the picture, tint, and contrast on the front pannel. The focus and convergence are still off, and i can't do any real work on it for a long time as i have mucho projects yet to work on this summer :worried:

Heres a rather crappy pic of the crowd at reagons funeral, but you can really see how poor the center focus really is
