I'm getting out of collecting old TVs but recently was contacted by someone with an old Motorola set. I don't know a whole lot about the old Motorola TV's but have a couple questions about this one for the experts here... First of all, is this a works in the drawer set or is it too new for that (the control panel looks a bit thin to me to be a works in the drawer.) Would it have the 23EGP22 CRT? Lastly, is this a hybrid chassis, all tube, or all solid state?

That is a nice Moto Quasar, looks to me like a solid state set from like '70 or '71. It does seem too thin in the control panel to be a works in a drawer, but it could be. Take a look inside. I can't really tell much from the dark pictures. May I ask why you are getting out of collecting old tvs? There are not many collectors in Wisconsin it seems, the more the better. I can't save 'em all! LOL!

I think the "Quasar II" was a hybrid set. I think it uses tubes in the deflection circuit and the rest is solid state.

Can you post a pic of the chassis? I would be interested in seeing it. I have not seen a Quasar II in person before. I thought that it said "II" but the image is smeared and I wasn't sure.

Unfortunately that's all the pics I have of it, as this set is located in the basement of one of my coworker's relatives in northern IL, so I have no way to get any additional pics or get a look at the chassis. It is a Quasar II though. (I had not seen a Quasar II before.)

Yea, getting out of vintage TVs because they take up so much space and I just don't have any time anymore to mess with them, plus my significant other says no more old TVs but vintage audio is still ok to collect. If someone here would be interested in this Moto, I could give you contact info.

If i remember right these were a hybrid set and may or may not be a works in a drawer style set up. If it is, it will have removable boards mounted on the upright chassis reguardless. I believe it uses a 23V type delta crt which is like a 25X or AP22 but not the 23EGP22 as the earlier had. I've had a couple and providing that the crt is ok it will produce a nice picture compared to the earlier ones. Some of these had instant on so beware.

The cabinet looks like its in great shape. This one's probably worth saving....even if instant-on killed the CRT I'm sure there are a bunch of NOS ones still out there somewhere....:scratch2:

I agree. Since i have a couple of these crt's for spares, i would snatch this one if it were close to me. Like i said before, i've had a couple of these in the past and they always worked well for me and were fairly easy to work on. I wouldnt mind having another one.

Heck, if I can get it on thanksgiving, this will be the 3rd thanksgiving in a row since 2006 that I got an old TV. Ironically, the last two sets were in northern illinois that I got and I picked them up on my way to my cousins house for thanksgiving dinner who lives up north in Greyslake.
