Hi,

I have a 1991 Panasonic from thrift which works well, but has a 1" scratch in the lower middle of the screen.

Tried some Brasso, no effect.

Any other suggestions? Any risks other than worsening the scratch?

Thanks!

Verry find grit sandpaper, maybe 500 grit or finer, and a glass polishing compound?

also be careful, since you'd be scraping glass away from a CRT with probably thousands of pounds of air pressure trying to crush it.

forget it, i've been through this and i can tell you that by trying to polish away the scratch, you will make an ugly, unsalvageable mess of your set's screen.

I think you'll better keep it as-is or replace the CRT straight away.

And no, scratches are not an implosion hazard on modern (banded) CRTs,

What about jeweler's rouge and a dremel buffing tool?

Maybe the stuff sold for repairing chips in car windshields? Or just any clear epoxy or nail polish or such? You'd probably need to position the TV set so the scratched part of the screen is level, facing up.

Anything you do to remove it is going to remove glass and create distortion that's worse than the scratch.

Live with it or replace the tube, you can probably find another set of similar vintage with a tube that will work.
