HI everyone,

It's a long shot, but I'm interested in a certain TV that we had while I was growing up. It was a 1970 model RCA Trans Vista, CTC-40, the model number (I believe) is GM-663 and it was called the "Lundberg" (this from a newspaper ad I found online.)

Please let me know if y'all run across one of these.

There are a few AK members who have posted about CTC-40s, so I think there's a chance. Are you sure it's a 40 and not a 44? Most of the ones labeled "Trans Vista Color" were CTC-44s, if I recall. It's likely that the same cabinet model was available with either chassis, as well as the tube-type CTC-38/39.

I have an rca newvista combo console (ctc-40), it is housed in a contemporary cabinet with doors that conceal the screen. I have the owners manual and remote control. I'd like to sell it, if anyone is interested, let me know.

Well, I say CTC-40 because those are the only sets I've seen pictures of that had identical controls to our old one. I know it wasn't a tube set for sure. It had the long bar power switch at top, and the controls pivoted out on a bottom-hinged door that held the speaker if I remember correctly. I am a rookie when it comes to old TVs - I've been interested in them for years but just recently bought one to learn on. I could be wrong about the chassis.

I am sure about the "Lundberg" model and that it was sold in 1970.

There was an earlier version of the CTC-40 which used a different control panel, more like a CTC-31/38, and no flip-down panel. I'm not sure but the Trans-Vista name may not have been used until they switched to the new control panel. (variants of the newer design seemed to get used on various tube and transistor chassis in the early 70s)

The version I have might be very early, it has a cast metal door concealing the color control switches, not the pull out control panel. It is also labeled "New-Vista" Solid State Color. It still has the old rca logos instead of current logo.

That sounds like the version I used to own. Mine looked pretty much like a
CTC38 control layout. It had the little flip up door at the bottom that hid the controls. The front of the set was labeled "RCA Victor New Vista Color Solid State."

You'll hate to hear this, but I found that exact set (in mint condition) about a year ago in the local trash. At the time, I was driving a LeBaron Convertible.

I couldn't imagine a worse car for console TV hauling.

I actually managed to lift it into the trunk, but I had nothing to strap it in with. It would have fallen out on the first bump, or as soon as I got in the car.

The garbage truck was just a few houses away. I assume it met its fate at the hands of the compactor. :sigh:

...speaking of LeBarons, years ago I hauled my ESS AMT speakers home in the tiny back seat of an '83 LeBaron convertible; had to lower the roof, stack them on top of each other, raised the roof and it just cleared. Not the easiest thing to do with speakers that are 70-80lbs. a piece. I can certainly empathize with your situation!
