Hey all

I crossed my fingers and had the guy ship this CRT to me.
This CRT dates from 1977.

What's the C stand for in front of the 25XP22?
Is this tube include rare earth phosphers?
Im thinking that if it's any good I might go and swap it with the Channel Master CRT thats in my Zenith just to make the Zenith 100% and then use the Channel Master CRT in the RCA CTC17XAB Chassis.

The "C" may indicate a Chromacolor tube; but, I don't know for sure.

Well that would be awesome! Chromacolor tubes seem to have an ability to produce a crisp, bright raster with awesome contrast

I'm afraid "C" indicates a used, tested tube, which was sold from a store at some point. The prefix letters "AA" = 100% new tube; "A" = used glass, but new phosphor and new gun (almost never seen on color tubes); "B" = a rebuilt tube (either new gun or re-cathoded) with used glass and phosphor); and "C" = a used tube.

No body used "recathoded" guns in 1977. New guns were very easily available then.
That was the system Zenith used.
AA is 100% new. RCA called their new tubes Hi-Lite, RCA regunned tubes were called Colorama.
A is new phospher and gun.
Sylvania started this, but it never panned out, too much work for amount of profit received, which was negative.
If the label on the tube says "Grade C, all used components" in the description portion, then it would be all used. I do not know any one who sold fully used tubes then, since regunned delta gun tubes were readily available for $25.
Many fancy names were also used for marketing, including the independents.
"Chrome, Chroma, Chroma View" this and that was extremely popular.
You should also remember when you are dealing with major corporate entities, they did not want their products repaired, they want consumers to keep buying product. Why do you think major electronic manufacturers are thrilled to see digital ?
Now they can control the complete life cycle of the product, you think a small TV repairman is going to repair the IC chip with his $19.95 Radio Shack meter ?

My understanding is that "B" is regunned. "C" should be tested/used. I've been wrong before though, so can anyone confirm?

Good news! Friday the crt arrived intact! I think im going be installing it tonight.

please post pics asap!!! my crt was awesome,just in a piece of junk set.it will do until i can find something nice to put it in.i cant wait to see yours.
