I saw a televisor replica kit on the web from the U.K. .I wondered if it is worth purchasing. Does anyone have one of these units? I am curious about their "play-ability" . I saw that there is free software to convert video to its format, but is it worth messing with?, thanks, Doug

Given it be on this side of the pond then it might be worth pursuing. Being where it is one would wonder how many wheelbarrow loads of pennies it would cost to get it here...

I don't have one of these but have heard from friends that they work very well. The only complaint is they come with a single LED that causes a hot spot in the middle of the image. This can be easily remedied with multiple LEDs. You can find movies of these running on YouTube:

Which one are you referring to? There is a low cost kit being sold, which works very well. Let us know where you saw it and I can give more information.

As for programming, NBTVA in the UK sells a number of CDs with 32 line programming recorded on them. If you want to do live TV, Darryl Hock sells his famous Aurora converter, which will convert NTSC to 32 line (or virtually any other standard).

I could not find the weight of this kit so I guessed high for the cya factor. How expensive are the dvd shows for these?

I have purchased two of them. They are properly working. But the disk is very small. I would replace it with a larger disk and with more powerful LEDs. If so, this is an excellent way to get a cheap and well-working NBTV monitor.
Don't forget customs payings. Here in Germany, the custom taxes and fees are calculated for the buying costs and for the shipping costs together.

I have one of these and it is just fun. It is a plastic front and a AA battery motor assembly and circuit board on the back.

The circuit board has an EPROM with a pre-loaded BBC "checkerboard" test pattern ready to go. You can drive it with a CD, but mine was never very stable with it.

The pic of the pattern shows the hot spot, but it is better than it looks in the pic. The camera hates it, the eye does better. Give it a try.
