View Full Version : Your favorite current TV show is?
Mine is PUSHING DAISIES. I'm surprised that a show with such a loopy outlook and so much imagination even made it on the air. It's wonderfully different - like a cross between Dr. Suess and THE MOD SQUAD. It has imaginative storylines, great characters, and just right pacing. A winner all the way!
Plus it has Kristen Chenowith, whose depth of talents astound me. IMO she is our finest musical-comedy performer. And, as her stint in THE WEST WING proved, she's also an adept dramatic actress. She can do it all! I saw her perform with the Boston Pops and, well, she was incredible!
Guess I'm a fan.

Yes. That show is VERY well done in all departments. My only gripe is that AMC has way too many commercial breaks. Commercial breaks are too frequent everywhere but AMC seems to be the worst.
I loved seeing Robert Morse again. He was quite the rising star when I was a kid but his career pretty much faded away with the 60s. If you've never seen one of his films you should do yourself a favor and rent one. My favorite is "How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" from 1967.:yes:

This is the way I watch it. Series on DVD or on Demand is a great way to watch. No commercials and you can watch a bunch at one sitting.

walkandtalk 10-01-2008, 01:19 PM I just found "Corner Gas" on WGN, and then I found out it's been cancelled. There's something about the dry humor and the straight delivery that just get me laughing. Last night's episode was particularly good: the hat-wearing guy had a good hair day, so he didn't wear his hat. And the four female characters all exchanged jobs, to see who's was the hardest. Great stuff, and even my grandparents can't find anything offensive (except the old fart character who constantly calls everyone a jackass).
"Breaking Bad" was also exceptional. It had me riveted. My favorite scene there was when they tried to dispose of a body by disolving it in the tub...
Those are some mighty fine shows. Y'all have good tastes.

Damn. Sorry to hear that. I thought Swingtown might be too high quality to last.
On the cheap thrills side, I love Lost and Heroes and 30 Rock.
The cable service I buy is $11.00/month and only includes the networks and TBS. So I don't get to see what's on AMC, TNT, Discovery, or any of those networks.
My cable bill would be $48.00 a month for that stuff. I'm willing to spend $132 per year to see TV, but not $576.
House MD and Boston Legal.
And every so often I play Band of Brothers once more.

tasha 10-01-2008, 08:33 PM By far, Mad Men is the best on TV. I'm one of those 10PM only shows people. had to give up Brothers & Sisters for it. Don't miss the "what's their name family name?". The writer's strike caused a lot of grief and surfing. Had to wait for 6 months to find out what happened to "H" on the Miami CSI. The CSI series are barely on my watch list but Miami is the best.
For some strange reason, the broadcast networks had me as a captive audience in the 10 spot for a decade, ER, CSI, Law & Order and other good shows. For the past two years, I've found other shows to replace their fare. And I am really burned out on Law & Order!

All of these shows get me hooked with top notch acting and intelligent story lines. One just happens to be set in deep space and the other involves a relentless cyborg trying to kill the savior of future mankind!

Guess I'm a fan.Count me as a big fan as well. PD's has been recorded but we haven't watched it yet. Right now Heroes is the favorite show at our house but PD's and Chuck are close behind.
I need to start recording Mad Men as I'm always hearing good things about it.
If I had to pick an "educational" show it would be THIS OLD HOUSE or AMERICAN MASTERS or HISTORY DETECTIVES or IRON CHEF AMERICA, all of which I try to never miss. MYTH BUSTERS was good but these last two seasons have been a let down for me. There's now a lot more blowing stuff up and a lot less real myth busting.
I do really like DIRTY JOBS. Mike needs and has a very strong stomach and an even stronger sense of humor.

A new show, "The Mentalist", has caught my eye and intrigues me enough to try it for 4 or 5 episodes. So far, so good. "Fringe" hooked me right from the start.

My wife's PRAYING they'll be able to wheedle Clooney into showing up on at least one episode. Otherwise, Dr. House is in the house, and "Diners, Driveins and Dives" has us taking notes preparing for a roadtrip of our own.

Cosmic 10-26-2008, 07:48 PM "Mad Men". Head and shoulders above. The only show we make an effort to follow after the Sopranos left us. We rent it from Netflix in Blu-Ray, so no commercials and pristine transfers.
If you know one of those 'there's no difference with Blu-Ray' people, treat them to a BR disc of MM and watch their jaws drop. Phil Abraham's cinematography is gorgeous.

shrinkboy 10-27-2008, 09:10 AM i'd imagine that with their production values the episodes are expensive to shoot. plus the short season keeps the story arc tight. there was so much mysterious stuff this year-- i loved the way they just left odysseus' visit to the land of the lotuseaters (don draper's california escapade and his reconnection with his former self) just completely dangling...the writers on this show are some of the best, in my opinion, willing as they are to deal in ambiguity and subtext.

Holst 10-28-2008, 12:14 PM I'm shocked that network TV, which I thought I'd abandoned years ago has the wife and I back. We are watching "My own worst enemy" with Christian Slater. I can't see them keeping up the intensity but for now it's really good.
